New to the Cobalt Family

My woman just bought a left over 2006 Red SS Supercharged Cobalt with Recaro (sucky) seats and everything else in between. Got 4500 off msrp which was nice.
She isnt a ricer nor does she race. she drives like a g'ma so the speed doesnt much matter to her.
ME? thats a different story.

But my first impressions of this car aren't terribly impressive to be honest. It's a neat car. Looks kinda cool and does have some get up and go. Unfortunately, it has nothing below 4k. reminds me of 600cc sportbikes. all top end, but nothing near the bottom or mid. keep it on the boil, and it's got some pickup.
Brakes...non-existant. Not even remotely what i expected.
seems very quiet and really smooth. just read in the owners manual they suggest using 91 octane. i told her to try 89 at her first fill up and see how that goes. the way she drives it i dont see that being a problem.
havent had much of a chance to DRIVE it yet because it's new, and it's been raining all day today.
seems like a fun car so far, just not givin me a boner yet.

Came on here to find out what can open this thing up a little bit for not so much money. not that i'll buy anything for her car before i finish the things i want with my Z, but nevertheless i see stage 2 as being a viable option to get some more torque out of the 2.0
35 more ponies for about 700 clams seems ok i guess.

Anyway, i like it so far. cant wait to give it a proper spanking.

Rick

Put in 91 octane.

no it probably wont be a noticeable gain in hp or performance, but you wont hafta worry about problems with the engine, despite how your lil lady drives.

my car as ample power 2500rpm and + *shrugs* not sure whats up with yours if you dont feel anything until 4000

at 4k its making 125hp. seems to disagree with your idea of this car having great low end power. does have a pretty nice and flat torque curve though.
and someone tell me how the hell this car at 205hp is making 208 to the rear wheels? STOCK!? how does that happen?

Because both the Satty and the Chevy make alot closer to 230-240 hp stock...

Sorry you're not ahppy with it... good thing YOU didn't buy it.

I'm sure most of us non-G85 owners would be happy to trade you seats... That means the teh sucky recaros.

They are 10 X more comfy than the stock SS seats. ( just my opinion )

Hard to believe you're only getting 125HP to teh wheels ( front wheels that is ), but it is what it is.

Actually, according to the linked dyno you posted it is about 175hp at 4k. Doesn't seem to bad to me for a 2.0l front drive econo box.

Good luck with the purchase!

It seems your Z is only making 30 or so more at 4K. Considering that you have two more cylinders, I don't think we're doing that bad. Also, last I checked, the Z weighed in a couple hundred pounds more. Maybe only 100. Just remember, yours is RWD and NA. Ours is FWD and FI. We still do have to build boost. Most of us see close to full boost before 3000RPM's. Drive it in fair weather for a while, I'm sure it will grow on you. It's just tough to switch between a RWD and FWD.

pics and info on Z or Ban!

but yea, let the car break in for a few thousand...it should be a stuggle to keep traction, not feel like a slug.

i can spin 1st and all of second down the 1/4 mile and still manage a 13.6 i must not have very much low end power

93 octane and up is the only thing i recommend in the LSJ
