since the top speed of the ls coupe is 120, what did the stage 5 cobalts do to be able to have good top end?

the Cobalt Phase 5 drag cars use aftermarket engine and transmission management programs and hardware and as such dont have many of the features of the stock Cobalt programming. for instance the Phase 5 cars use a modified 4T65e transmissiom(out of the much bigger Impala/Monte Carlo platform) instead of the stock 4T45e.(there is a street/track 4T45e coming soon!!)

my ls has been up to 125 nd when in my 5th gear it felt slugish alof of noise but no power realy

I dont get the top speed in these cars... I can go 120.... and be at redline... i slow down to 110 and give a little gas it seems like its in a higher gear(overdrive?).... being as its only at like 4500 rpms... but when i give it a little too much it downshifts and will go 120.... idk..

I have the base of the base model and I'm not limited to 170Km like most GM cars in canada. I go all the way to 198 before my limiter cuts in. I have the continentals (currently icetracks for winter).

you top speed is dependant on what tires you have if your stock tires are only rated to 112 you have a top speed of 106 or 108 but mine are rated to 130 ive hit 120 and climbed a little more but no power in 5th supposedly is at 124

It's programmed into the PCM. If you get different tires with a higher speed rating you might be able to find a performance shop that can adjust it accordingly.

The SS/SC have tires rated to 168 but we can't come anywhere near that....stupid drag.

Why... would you just want to constanly want to top out your stock 2.2. The tires aint great stock and your stock suspension aint either. Atleast do some suspensions mods and get some wider tires and maybe more engine work and see what your "top speed" is :thumbsdow

I've hit 110mph mutiple times in my Base model. If i had some suspension and brake mods plus different wheels and tires i would have the limiter removed and bet it would hit 125mph no problem, but with the tires and stock suspension and brakes, no way i would go over 110mph

Damn I only got mine to about 124 mph, that was enough of a rush for me but it was still going along pretty good.
I'm sure if I pushed enough I could get it to maybe 135 mph but I won't do that unless I got some serious brake upgrades done.

Yeah I bought 2 X FE5 Struts + 2 X FE5 rear shocks from Crate engine Depot. Not very expensive and worth every dollar, you can really tell the difference. As far as how low I only got 0.5" Rear Drop because the Stock SS/SC Springs + SS/SC Shocks combined will already lower a base model 1.6" Front and 1.3" Rear.

your options that you bought your car with, determined how your car was tuned.... there are two tunes or the LS and LT. Some LS that came with alloys, and some other little things had a higher limiter

i hit 165....with the 350Z mod...and 172 with the 10 sec Supra Mod...talk about tunnel vision

my lt has the sport package so it has the 16" alloys with better tires and the govenor goes to 127. it has the white face 140 gauges too. i,ve got better tires and wheels now thou.

no, the cars with lower rated tires top out at 106-112 range, where guys with 2.2s that have the higher rated tires have hit 120+

I was next to my buddy who has a modded stratuse rt and he said his tack was reading 137 and im fully bolted it felt good too but after my ticket i have relized there really isnt a good reason to go that fast unless ur on the track 4 points and a 240 dollar ticket is not to fun

Every time i try to top out in my car, I have it in 4th, then it chokes up and quits revving (no its not the rev limiter. Yes im positive) so i put it in 5th and then it just lugs its way up to 116-117 and quits pulling. its a pretty noticible lurch foward when it quits and the motor starts sounding worse than when it was bogging so im figuring that im hitting some kind of limiter wether it be fuel or ignition. i have 17 inch wheels with maxxis tires, not sure on the demensions but i know that when i had them put on they told me that they were a tad bigger than the stocks so I would need to watch my speed because i would be going a little faster than the speedo was reading. are you guys thats taking your ls models to 120+ doing computer mods? or does every ls model not come out with the same limiter? I have an 07 by the way.

there are 2 limiters, one for around 110ish and one for 130

this is due to the fact of the 2.2s coming with 2 different tires, one rated for 112 and one rated for 130

i was just asking because my car came with the tires rated for 130, but my speedo only said 120 instead of the one that goes to 140, so for some reason i was under the impression that i might have been limted to 112

I got my Lt to go past its speedo i got the 120 speedo and i was past that untill it shut off, so im guessing about 125

I got my bone stock ls to go to 117 but had to slow down for the toll...i dont know if it will go past that.

I had my 06 ls up to 125mph on christmas and that was still a couple hundred rpms before the end of 3rd gear lol and it was still pulling decent. And yes tuning is the only way to go if you want to go faster because originally my car stopped at 105
