First oil change?
First oil change?
Bought my new SS non sc about 3 months ago and i have roughly 3300 miles on it and the olm is reading something like 63%. With that in mind i would guess that the car will have something like 7000+ on the engine when the olm reaches 0&. My question is should i get it changed now, or maybe 5000 miles or what untill the olm indicates that it is time? Secondly when would be the best time to change to synthetic oil. I'm guessing after the engine is properly broken in with conventional oil. Thanks

Also, to the original poster, the engines are broken in from the factory, so there's no real need to do that first oil change early to get rid of metal shavings and such, however there are many belief systems out there. Do whatever puts your mind at ease.
And if it were me, I'd go synthetic on the first change. That's just me, though!

It doesn't lie - as long as you check the oil regularly to make sure it's not too dirty, it will maintain its viscosity well beyond the 0% mark on the OLM. If you drive in a dusty environment (like me, in AZ), then a filter change at 50% would probably do you good.

Are they really? Because I wanted to take my 2.4SS out to the track tonight...I only have 700 miles.

The 3000 mile change is a good thing...but only for the oil companies. We're starting to have 300 and 500 hour change intervals on farm tractors, which are run at rated power for most of those hours. If you consider how many miles 300 hours would be in a car at 70 mph thats 21000 miles. Its a diesel, I know, but its not going to be all that much different in theory.
Its so easy to change filters though, that you might consider popping them in at changes and once in between.
