General Job's Rant!!!!
General Job's Rant!!!!
I am starting to get very annoyed with companies these days..
You go to school to learn.. You go to college/university to get into your career learning to try to get a job when you get out.. That's the whole point right..
Well...
I went to school to be a truck driver.. but MAINLY to get my trade as an operator of heavy machinery.. Which now seems like a waste of my time.. Cause you go to all these companies applying in hopes to start out your career.. But what happens.. 95% of them want 3-5 .. 6-10 years experiance.. The last straw of this annoyance for me.. Was when I called the operators union for the Ontario area.. She tells me on the phone.. That I must fax my resume.. But people in the union get the first pick at jobs before they hiring new union people.. Well ok.. That happens everywhere (which sorta is bs as well.. different story)... But she says that they want people with experiance lol.. That I should go apply to places that are un-unionized... It just makes me so mad.. but also makes me laugh.. Cause its complete bs..
How is a person suppose to get into something.. When everyone want experiance.. No one is this world started working know already what do .. So why is it.. Now in days everyone expects you to have experiance.. Sooner or later.. They will keep hiring people with expertiance.. But there will also be a day when those people grow older and can no longer do that job.. Now they are left with no one because they denied employment to all the people who were just starting out...
Why does no one give anyone a chance. I mean I went to school and paid lots of money (you wouldn't believe how much it cost to do heavy eqiupment training).. Just so I can be told I need experiance from almost every company I have applied or talked to.. It's crazy and complete bull.....
Does anyone else have this type of problem... Or better yet.. Does anyone know of a company who hired machine operators as first comers rather then people who are gonna be out of comission in a couple years...
I mean.. Unless I am getting paid $20+ to drive a transport.. And I get home everynight.. And I don't do long distance.. Then I will stick to it.. But I dont want to drive transport anymore cause its not worth the money... Besides. Once I get better into machinery.. Just like any trade you get paid well.. So I am looking to eventually get paid my $30-40...
Anyone help.. Or anyone else experiance these problems?

i havent personally experienced these problems but all my friends that went to school has this problem... my buddy went to school for aircraft engineering and cant get any type of job anywhere at all , same thing is said to him he is so pissed off cause he graduated two years ago and nobody will even look at him or give him a chance to apprentice... in the end man i would suggest that you should go through an agency at first even tho you dont get paid quite as much, but you will get your foot in the door and get to know the guys in there and eventually just drop the agency and work full time through them. a firend of mine owns an agency and he said that lots of those guys that get a job like that starts through them... good luck and i hope everythin works out for you in the end...its too bad that society has to be like this, it is honestly a shame, anyways i better stop typing before i rant for hours and get pissed off.

it should be "yes sir, no sir, two bags full?" no matter how shitty it is. You tough out the shitty pay and being the bitch boy that come with starting ANY trade. Take the first job you can related to your field and work your way up with the above mentioned method.
its a competitive PROFESSIONAL market out there...which in turn raises salaries/pay. So if you want the good jobs with the good pay you gotta start at the bottom.
you honestly didnt expect to get a job like that right out of college did you?...if so that is your 2nd mistake.
First of all................................shame on you for not researching how it all works before you pay and spend all that time and money for school only to find out how it all works in the end(and total shame on your high school guidence counsellor who doesn't give a **** about you!!!!!!) I always tell younge people to take a year off after high school and find out what they really want to do.................not just what their parents want them to do and not what they were best at in high school................... Best bet is to get work..................for now, take a shitty paying job. I don't mean take a shitty job..............there is a difference. Find a reputable employer to work for, for one year(only one year!!!and don't tell them that!!!!). Make sure it's a well known employer. Take less pay for experience----it's that simple. Work like a dog for that year..........and then come up with an excuse to leave that will keep you on their good books and will give you a great reference.............and then...........network and charge more for your hard earned knowledge. Allways keep good references!!!!!

not to offend you man but unfortunately getting a job at mc donalds or some other place thats not relative to the job he wants isnt going to do anything as far as references go when you wanna do something like being a truck driver or heavy machine operator. my buddy that i spoke about that went to school for that engineering job has been working at chrysler the whole way through school and hes still found nothing at all... i totally agree its who you know but get this hes also been working at the airport busting his ass in luggage to get to know people from other airlines to get him in to apprentice and still nothing at all what so ever. man its a hard world out there and all i gotta say is keep working hard and itll all come into play eventually.
"That right there is your first mistake. If you are brand new in a field and want to succeed in it you can not for one second be picky or bitch about pay/hours/placement/bitch work...etc..."
I didn't make a mistake or anything.. I am not picky about pay/hours/work etc... I just said I didnt want to truck drive that I wanted to get into the heavy machinery part... The only reason I said unless I am getting paid $20/hr is because I don't wanna truck drive... I don't do the bitch work.. The hours can be crazy but it's okie sometimes.. Just the pay should be better for a trucker.. That is also why I said.. " So I am looking to eventually get paid my $30-40".. Which means.. I gotta start by like operating a bobcat or something.. Then work my way up to get to the $30/$40 ..... So I guess you just misunderstood me.. Not a problem.. Hope this explains a little better..
betterthanbad - I guess I was clear on this.. I am not in high school.. I did the whole take 1 year off thing.. I have been working full-time in different jobs for the past like 7years.. The trucking job has been 3yrs of that 7... Also.. Like Crossed Over pointed out.. You can't just work anywhere... You need to work in stuff related to the job to get a job in the field that is better.. You can be a paperboy and expect to use it as a reference to be a lawyer.. Get what I am saying... And to get experiance with companies.. Apprently you need experiance.. Well you can get it.. IF they don't higher you..
I also agree.. Now it days.. It's more or less who you know.. Not what you know.. I have been trying to get into the Durham Region for a long time now.. Handing in my resume any chance I get.. I havent gotten a call or anything.. My buddy (old work guy)never applied.. His next door neighbour got him into the Durham Region with a snap of his finger... So I mean there is a prime example of knowing people.. This guy doesnt try to get into Durham Region Works Department.. I have been trying.. And he gets in without a problem..
This world we live in is crazy!!

but yea...that type of "its not what you know its who you know" deal is everywhere now. Ive seen it first hand a bunch of times. Im looking to get into policing and work a shitty job that pays shitty, is dangerous, but I get amazing "life" experience working the dirtiest housing complex areas of downtown Toronto.
There have been a few people i know of already that get hired onto the police force (which is very hard and competitive now) because of who they know. One kid worked mall security in a mall that is filled with old people and teenagers on lunch break in an upscale part of Mississauga...yea..great "life" experience there.
i could go on...

Bitch>Garbage boy>Tee Cutter>Shop Helper>Small Engine Mech Apprentice>>Assistant Mechanic>Turf Tech. Apprentice>Head Mechanic.
8 of those 9 jobs were just garbage. get up at 3:30 am, 1 hour away...work 12 days straight for 2 days off.........
I'm not getting down on you man, that sucks and I feel ya. Keep trying as hard as you can and you'll get in somewhere. Schooling is never a waste.
Let's see if we can do cpr on this thread.
I know you said you went to school to get a good job. Has anyone here done the distance learning crap that they offer on tv or on the internet to get you "certificate" in a particular field. I'm wanting to go into Commerical and residential HVAC and yeah all the listing pretty much say experience required. I have an major in automotive tech, I know I can get a job in any dealership pretty much. But my associates in Science. I have hvac experience on the automotive side, the princaples are the same. I've sent in some applications and have not heard a damn thing back in a couple of weeks. But sometimes its a matter of going in person and being like hey I want this job, hire me damn it.
Has anyone taken a distant learning class and helped them though?
