Just bought New Winter Tires/Rims

I just bought a set of ContiWinterContact TS790 V tires and steel wheels. Has anyone used these before? They were $89 a piece and the steel rims were $49 each. With shipping my total came to $618. I was looking around and this seems to be an ok deal. I havent seen many other posts about where to get winter wheels at a decent price.

I bought a set of Viking Snowtech, it is a Swedish company that is owned by Continental, they were $72/tire. I am happy with them, but haven't driven on them yet...

I just went to tirerack.com and entered in the cobalt, click on winter packages, then select tire and rim. The cheapest package was $504.

Mine came to $375 for the four tires mounted and balanced, plus $175 for used Cadillac Catera wheels off of eBay. I would check eBay for some used wheels, there are starting to be a lot of options out there.

I went all out for my snows.... I bought 17" x 8" ASA JH8's w/ Dunlop Sport Max M3's from tire rack. I plan on using these rims in the warm months w/ sticky race rubber... to save my stock 18's just for commuting or visa-versa (tbd based on which group I race w/ next season).
The Dunlop Sport Max M3's are a perfomance winter tire. here is the link to the tire.

I am hoping to get 3 seasons out of the winter tires so I went for something that I can run at 100+ mph if necessary and I still get all the handling aspects of a performance tire.

I will provide an update in a few weeks once I get them on the car.

Good deal.
I'm thinking of getting the same rims at tire rack but with some Dunlop WinterSports 3D... did you get 215/55/16 or 205/60/16?

Grrr, every time I've ever checked for steel rims at Tirerack they said none available. Maybe they have them now?

Steel rims for winter are the new hotness!

I just got what it told me so I figured this would match stock diameter the best.

Can you post pics? I'm curious to see what steel wheels tirerack is selling because their site still says "not available".

that seems a bit large...they recommend 215/55 16. Your speedo will be off, but I remember somebody having that tire size around here...

Still no luck - it says "None Available". This is without choosing a tire size - I skipped right to "choose wheels". Cobalt Coupe, SS Non-Supercharged.

Its not a problem since I already got a set elsewhere; I was just trying to compare the costs.

Sure Ill try to do that tomorrow. I tried looking up wheels for the 2.4 and I also saw that there were no steel available. I thought the wheels were the same on the ss/sc as the ss/na?
