check/fill plug ss sc?
anyone know where the check and fill spot is on the ss/sc tranny? the owners manual didnt tell me **** except that it should not need serviced (that idea went bye bye
when my tranny was grenaded the first time)

I know for a FACT that in the LS(2.2) 5 speed they use ATF, it is lighter and since the sump is in the lower part of the transmission it needs to have ATF so it can work its way from the bottom of the trasmission to the top and lubricate all the gears(IIRC, of course). So assuming the SS/SC transmission is the same(I know it's a different model but may be similar), then it should have ATF in it anyway.
But then again I could be wrong and I'm trying to recall this all from my head.
On a side note I filled my 5 speed with Mobil 1 ATF.

If you take the driver side wheel off, both the fill/drain bolts are on that side of the tranny facing out. I put ATF in mine after the clutch install and it cause nothing but problems. Would grind a lot. Just today I put a more thicker manual fluid in and it cured all my problems. Although people say it's ok for ATF, I would go against it.

Getrags dont use syncromesh. Goto your local GM supplier and ask for "Saturn synthetic manual transmission Fluid" It's RED (which makes people think its ATF) and it has a very sweet smell to it (almost like honey). Cool thing is, the stuff is Cheaper than syncromesh, and its what they were filling the 02-05 Cavaliers with when they had their getrag 2-3 shift problems. Since i work for a Chevy dealership, my cost is anywhere between 6-8 dollars a quart, depending on what the going rate is and markup. If you get charged anything over 10 dollars a quart, tell em to stop being tight asses and not put a 200% markup on the ****. The 5 speeds take around 2 quarts (Give or take). Check your manual to make sure.
As WS Frazier said, the drain/fill plugs are accessed by removing the driver's side wheel.
And YOU MUST use the Saturn fluid.

Royal Purple Synchromax
Royal Purple Synchromax gear oil is what i just put in my cobalt, its about 8-9 dollars a quart. Its very good stuff though, my car switches into each gear smoother. Im also running royal purple in my engine, its really good stuff.
