06 Cobalt SS/SC or a 04 WRX

so a friend that i autox with brought up that they where thinking about getting ride of their wrx(already own an sti and a tundra to tow it) and told me that they have another set of wheels with some race rubber(kumho race tires) and a set of unmounted used race tires that would go with it. so what i am thinking is i could trade in my mitsubishi lancer oz and MAYBE break even and get the cobalt ss/sc(with gm employee discount even after it ends) or try and sell my lancer out right and maybe make some money and get the used wrx for probably kbb private party value or lower maybe. i am torn between the 2 cars as i have wanted a wrx for a while now but i like the cobalt styling and i am the type of person that likes to be different. Keeping in mind that both cars would be staying stock no modes other than koni adjustables becuase i plan on autocrossing whatever car i get (and they run in the same stock class). what does everyone think? wrx or cobalt ss/sc

wow. a mitsu owner switching? thats the first. I guess chevy is doing a good job then.
the 2 are very different, awd turbo sedan vs supercharged coupe. initialy i would say you fit best in the awd, but you like the cobalt. that subaru is probably in good condition too, yet the cobalt will be brand new. i would take the subaru because its awd and i would turn it into a rally car. for you, i say, try something new, try the chevy.

I know, a lil off topic, but I too am getting rid of my '02 Lancer OZ for an '05 SS/SC. Of course, my OZ is going to my fiancee. I'm against the WRX, but that's cuz I like Mitsu over Subaru.....personal preference. I would go w/ which ever one you favor the most, no matter how lil of a difference. test drives might be a good idea.

Thats a tough choice, i know because those were my choices as well. In the end i chose my SS, but that was a preference for a great interior, newer styling and new car. The wrx is faster but it was lil things i dont like about it. Its totally a personal preference cuz we can tell u all day what to do but at the end of the day u have to drive it.

I suggest that you test drive both (if done, do it again) and see which one u like better.

I have not driven a ss/sc yet as I am afraid that if I do I will try and buy it on the spot and screw myself. I have driven a wrx though and did enjoy it. what I am debating is more finacial. is it worth it to get the ss/sc which may cost a little more out the door plus the cost of an extra set of wheels and tires to autox.(also the unknown resale value) or get the wrx with the extra set of wheels and a known good resale value.

i would go for WRX for strategic reasons: cheaper to buy, so you have money for auto x equipment, and it's AWD, so it'll fair a little better. Having said that, I hear the cobalt holds it's own.

We can't really help make a financial decision for you, but as far as resale, I would put too much faith in the resale of a GM vehicle. WRX has a history of resale since it's been out for a while now. The SS/SC is a new car and the while it might hold it's value more than say a ls coupe it's all just speculation.

Sounds like you are better off with a WRX if you already have the wheels ect. The SS/SC does handle great and it's a great car for me so far.

Either way you can't go wrong, but if it's staying stock either way, I'd go SS/SC since the insurance on the STi is going to be HUGE

i don't know... every subaru i've seen has had really bad understeer when stock. I'd say test drive both of them. btw don't flame me for the understeer comment. I'm not that experienced so i could be wrong but all my friends subaru's have bad understeer issues. even with the sti rear sway bars.
