Exclamation Ok, I'm kinda freaking out....i need some input...

Okay so I was just out with my friend, basically we were racing each other on a backroad around my house. Now I have an 06 ss/sc and he drives a Celica GT. It was an easy win for me all around. We started from a 40 roll etc. and i burned him through and through. ON our way home, we hit a redlight so we do what any guy would do, wait for green and punch it. I got off to a good start, but as i went to shift into second, something weird happened. I'm not exactly sure what went wrong but my tach went berzerk and shut off, it was reading 0rpms. Now at this point i freak out but there is no cel on so i figured i just needed to restart the car and it would be ok. well we come up to another light and we are both waiting for it to turn green (this time i'm behind him, we werent racing) and my engine cut off. Now i'm used to the rpm's fluctuating and the engine sometimes tends to hestitate after a good run but this time i couldnt get my car started up. SO now i'm really freaking out b/c i just put an injen cai on and i'm worried that had some ill effect on the rest of my car. (also i was looking at my cai today and i noticed that there are two indents from where a grounding bolt and the engine mount scraped up against.) Soo long story short, my engine wouldnt start so i popped the hood and waited a minute and tried again, it started up alright and i drove it home just fine but i'm still worried as **** that something serious may be wrong with my car. Of course the cel turned off after thirty seconds, but i'm still worried something may be wrong. Has anyone experienced this? Or does anyone know what may be wrong?

It sounds like the dreaded "limp mode" nothing serious.

I've had weird quirky issues like that before as well. Just be careful for awhile, and keep a good eye on things. I would shorten the ground bolt or get a rubber cover for it. That'll eventually rub through the intake if you don't fix it soon. If you can pull the code from the car, as that'll tell you what the car was bitching about.

If you got a CEL, even just for a moment, then you threw a code. That code is stored right now in your computer. Go have your GM Goodwrench guy plug in and read the code. It will tell you for certain what happened. And don't worry about your intake, they don't care and won't say anything like "well, you voided your warranty!"

that happend to me i towed to the dealer and they told me it was the crank shft sensor, but they couldnt get the car to fail for that code anymore, ever since then my car seems to run a bit harder. no harm done.

Unless they're like the dealer nearest me (Michael Holley Chevrolet). That's the first thing they told me when my car acted up on me (about 7 months after I installed my Injen).

Did you bounce off the rev limiter by any chance? Because that will throw it into limp mode if you do it hard enough. That's what happened to me once, threw a CEL and put me into limp mode.

its for any model, it kicks in when you have some kind of malfunction that could lead to more harm if you drive your car too hard after it, so the car sets a bunch of paramiters on a bunch of things to prevent further damage.....

Listen man, it's okay, nothing to fret about, everyman gets limp mode once in a while. You got overheated, that's all, just take your time and maybe a nap and you'll be back to normal with a good hard-fast engine. You were just a little too nervous with the clutch, next time you gotta ease it, let it come naturally, don't let your nerves get to ya.

yea come to think of it i hit the rev limiter in 2nd pretty hard....not to mention i've only been driving a stick for about four months soo it'll take some time. And yes the Injen cai is rubbing hard on that grounding bolt and also on an engine mount down next to the hole where the cai leads to the filter... its almost run a hole through on both places and i havent even had it in for more than a month. so i'll most likely call injen and have the send me another one, and also cut back the grounding bolt and try to use some rubber or something to keep it from rubbing the engine mount.

Noise

Just a thought but if that grounding bolt is rubbing your intake it could be causing electrical "noise" in the electrical system of your car. under hard accelaration it may shift your engine on the mounts far enough to vibrate the intake on that bolt. any time you have metal on metal vibrations you get "noise." this could have caused your computer to freak out thinking there is a short somewhere in your car and shut things down. Your car should NOT be overheating no matter how hard you run it. If that be the case they you have other issues to deal with. I would wait to see if it does it again and THEN take care of that bolt. grind it down or insulate it somehow and see if that stops it. Let me know how it turns out.

I've temporarily insulated the bolt w/ a plastic piece and some duct tape (ugly as hell but it works). It was insulated when this happend acouple days ago.

I currently have some duct tape around it, and some rubber stoppers holding the intake away from the lower engine bracket until i can get to home depot or something for something more practical
