So the cobalt got the title "MOST DANGEROUS CAR"

2007 Chevrolet Cobalt four-door, without optional side airbags

Safety issues:

--"Poor" side-impact rating from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety

--Substantially worse-than-average frequency of injury claims filed

--"Safety concern" issued by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, based on Cobalt's performance in frontal side-impact testing.

That's very interesting. Do you have a link to an article or anything?

I know the coupes do very well.

When they came out the 2 doors were bad and the 4 doors were safe. I looked up my 2006 before I bought it and it has 4 and 5 star ratings and its the SS S/C.

This article and those tests are BS. If you read the whole article it boils down to any 4-door that doesn't have side curtain airbags gets a poor score. There are a bunch of poor scores.

Toyota Corolla 4-door No side curtain airbags.
Mazda 3 4-door No side curtain airbags.
Saturn Ion 4-door No side curtain airbags.
Ford Focus 4-door No side curtain airbags.

So if you have a compact-midsized 4-door and you don't have side curtain airbags you get a bad score.

I personally don't see a problem here..

The car was designed to be an overall great car, relitively cheap and easy to maintain..

It's not a Volvo or a BMW so who cares...

From all the wrecks I've seen on here... the Cobalt seems to be pretty sturdy. Heck... mine took a 20MPH impact to the rear... just cosmetic damage.

crash test

these cars are unsafe....without side imapct air bags.

with the side impact air bags they always rated a 4 or 5.

when they do these tests they are testing the bare minimum to be called car. four wheels and a steering wheel.

no frills what so ever.

Just get ones with the side air bags, is $400 really too much when they might save your life???

Copied this from the other thread in GD:

Screw Forbes. Look at the NHTSA and IIHS crash ratings.

Coupe Crash Test Results
NHTSA Ratings
Passenger: Excellent
Driver: Good
Side Impact Front: Good
Side Impact Rear: Good
Rollover Rating: Good
NHTSA: Excellent, Good, Average, Poor, Very Poor, Not Tested

IIHS Ratings
Crash Offset: Good
Bumper Bash: Not Tested
IIHS: Good, Acceptable, Marginal, Poor, Not Tested

Sedan Crash Test Results
NHTSA Ratings
Passenger: Excellent
Driver: Good
Side Impact Front: Average
Side Impact Rear: Good
Rollover Rating: Good
NHTSA: Excellent, Good, Average, Poor, Very Poor, Not Tested

IIHS Ratings
Crash Offset: Good
Bumper Bash: Not Tested
IIHS: Good, Acceptable, Marginal, Poor, Not Tested

These are published over on Edmunds... Not sure if they were tested with or without side airbags.
