Coil overs or Lowering spring? I lost!
Coil overs or Lowering spring? I lost!
Im sure this question has been asked over and over again but i cant seem to find the answer in the "search" Im looking to lower my SS/SC cause as well all know the ass sits up 2 high. I dont know what to get coil overs or Springs and whats really the diffrence besides being able 2 adjust one and not the other, Also which should i get with out spending an arm and a leg?
I first bought the Eibach sportlines, which dropped the car nicely and it was great for daily driving. But now since I dont drive it as much i bought H&R's to give it more of a drop. But its been a rough ride and I blew a shock i think haha. But Im just waiting on my coilovers to come in. I always wanted to get coilovers instead of springs just due to the fact they are adjustable and i think a better ride. So i would save a little and get coilovers.

So othere then being able 2 adjust the ride height there really isnt ny difference? When would u need to adjust the height anyway?

Its way more than just adjusting the ride height, check out gravanatuning.com for more info. Adjust the ride height for diff purposes, autox, drag-racing, daily driving.
I believe coil overs have a much higher spring rate.
I personally would choose straight springs.
What are you looking for out of lowering? Looks or performance?
Also, do you have any type of struts you plan on getting?

Coilover's intended use is for racing. If your just looking to drop for looks I would just get a set of springs. They will save you a lot of money. If your really into solo or club racing coilovers would be something you would want to look into.

Not sure if this is the case on Cobalts or not, but on Mustangs, springs don't always settle evenly. A lot of people will get Coilovers to adjust the height so that they can be sure the car will be level.

It might depend more on how bad the snow storm is but if it's a considerable amount, you might still be alright if you have a body kit. If you don't have a body kit, you'll be fine. The whole "re-adjusting" thing is more of something you probably don't even end up doing like most people don't. Most people are satisfied with a ride height and leave it.

coilovers offer adjustability not only in ride height but also in stiffness if you purchase the right kind. they give you the option of adjusting your suspension setup to your needs and overall they give you better handling but also a much stiffer ride.
i may consider coilovers as well not because I need them but because none of these companies releasing springs for our platform think its important to come out with compatible shocks/struts as well.

you see cobalt mav, and gocanucksgo are two good examples of people who probably bought a set of coilovers that are prodominently for track use.
like was said above the coilovers that are around $1200.00 were made with a single purpose in mind, increased handling, not comfort.
you have to select the right set up for your purpose.
I decided to go with coilovers because there were no dampeners on the market yet.
but the ride quality is extremely important to me, that's why I payed for the JBP coilovers.
Bilsteins are the best struts you can buy, honestly the ride quality is better then stock, and far superior handling.
