2006 ss/sc with stock wheel paint flaking techonology
i been reading some post about this problem. can i have some service numbers or complaint lines that can presuade GM to take a more hands on approach, i.:nonoe. not ******* avoiding
me and trying to make me pay half of the repair or upgrade.

I talked to my service warranty rep and she said that if it's noticable that something like a chemical has been sprayed on it that warranty probably wouldn't pay for it. But, if not, the dealership should take care of that for you without any money out of pocket. She said that most of the time they will not replace the painted wheels but refinish them.
AND that can take awhile to do cause they must be sent to an authorized wheel repair shop. Thats per the buliton from GM. Dealers are NOT allowed to do ANYTHING to those wheels other then pull them and ship them.
That translates into weeks to get them back.

Take them off, dismount the tires, spray them what ever color you choose, and put them back one. Make them custom to suit the style of your car. That's what I would do. Less headache, less time, and a car atuned to your style is worth the time and effort.
I had my rims refinished at the dealer's expense due to this wheel flaking issue, they sent them out to a shop that specializes in wheels and put me in touch with the guy who was doing the work, he asked me what color I told him gunmetal and it was a done deal. I have no complaints, 4-5 months later and they still look almost brand new (except for a little ding here and there...not much u can do about that, they ARE rims) I was without my car for ~3 days and the dealer provided a rental car...you can find pics here.

(scroll down the page, the first series of pics were taken when they were dirty like a ****...there's a second set after washing which is alot better)
edit: to add to that, the guy who refinished them was pretty appauled by how cheap the factory paint was, he said there wasn't nearly enough product on the wheels and would have been shocked if the paint didn't flake off with normal use

Very sexy man, I love your wheels. I am going to make sure to tell them for the company doing my wheels to call me before they do ANYTHING!... I am going to get the darker gunmetal like you!! That or i want them to polish the **** out of my wheels, but gunmetal is far nicer!
too bad, i can't see the pictures from the other thread...yea I had a hole in my tire, had it patched at a GM dealership, when I got the rim back it had little hit marks all over...I get much better wheel service from local speed shops.
I probably should've had GM repaint it but I only noticed when I got home, can't be bothered to go back and argue with the dealership only to have them tell me I must have caused the damage...who needs that revolving circle of abuse
....anyways I dunno if this story really fits this thread and i dont care.

Has anyone see the guy who had the post about his 2 tone wheels. I am looking for them. They where like gunmetal on the spokes and the inside light grey!! so sexy I want a picture to get mine done like his if they would do that!
Im happy I had to have my wheels refinished . They look so much better than the OEM finish . The re-man's were the same dark color and hue , but the clearcoat was thicker and the finish was as shiney as the paint the car . GM's service bulletin on the wheels leaves the door open for dealer discression which is too bad , because alot of the shady dealers will use that to " in their opinion" blame the problem on wear and rock chips ect . Sorry , but a stone chip will not flake the paint off right down to the bare aluminum and not leave any kind of scratch from the impact in the alumium.
Skatecity- get a regional GM rep involved , because they cant make you pay 1/2 for a OEM defect
These are my remans

they stick the the guns of this not being a deferct but rather wear and tear. i told them there stupid cause rocks and chips are different that bubbles and flaking. i have road hazard warrenty. and it was the regonal rep in the el paso area.

talk to different dealership today. they said that the bubbeling and flaking could of been as a result of the clearcoat being applied over some debris during the wheel painting. "why would you paint wheels?"
