help with manual info

can anyone please help??? i need to find where it states that my vehical has 2 shift lights. one - economy - the second - hard shift (performance light) i need to prove that i was shifting my car the way explained with the performance light.

please - i need all and any info about this!!! im going infront of the GM rep. monday morning!!! INFO ASAP!

well...... you must not drive your car hard because there is a shift light that comes on right before redline and fuel shut off.... what do you need to know about it? what do you need to explain? also what kind of balt do you have?

ok then this is what i have.

my cars shift lite comes on at 2000-3200 then it goes off and comes on again at 5100-5500 and thats the hard shift lite becouse it go's off after 5500 then the rev limiter hits at 6100. so whats the second lite?

and when i took it drag racing 1/8 mile and ran 3 times shifting it at first shift lite.launching it at 2000 flat. and ran 11.5

and then i decided to take it up stairs i ran 3 times again and anouther shilt lite came on at 5100 and stayed on intill 5500 then went off the i hit the rev limiter at 6100 in second gear. 1st run second set of 3 runs

so on my next 2 runs i was runing 9.5 on the 1/8 bone stock. so i read thats a hard shift lite but i cant remember where.

so then can any one tell me why it comes on then goes off then comes on later and goes back off. then revs higher and the rev limiter hits.

what kind of cobalt do you have?????? 2.0, 2.2, 2.4?????? also my light only comes on near redline

2.0s don't have shift lights, so I dunno from experience in my own car but my friend has a 2.2 manual ION and I've never seen more than one shift light.

Also if you're consistently shifting at or just before redline, good luck getting them to fix tranny problems under warranty. That's going to definitely qualify as abuse.

K, asked my uncles to research more info on this. There are not two "shift" lights per say. There's a shift light at around 2500. SOME cars light (they said it used to be a flashing light rather than the solid shift light, using the same indicator as the shift light) that comes on before redline -- this is NOT a shift light!!!!! It's a warning light to let you know that you haven't shifted gears and risk damage to the engine. If you go in and tell them you're shifting at that light, they're likely going to laugh you out of the service department.

The only defense against that you MIGHT have is that you accidentally forgot to shift and the light came back on, so you assumed that was a second shift point. The manual doesn't say otherwise, it just talks about the shift light (2500), not the dummy light.

owe ok well mine dont flash it looks the same and acts the same. but nether the less it looks like i need to find a trans. im not paying 2865.00 for a new trans from gm.

so if any one has a 2.2 manual trans for sale hit me back.with low miles

Yeah, from everything I'm told, that 2nd light - flashing or not - isn't there for performance, it's a "dummy" light to prevent consistently high-revving the engine. You can try your luck with a dealer, but as soon as they see you're consistently taking the car that close to redline, chances are they're going to consider it abuse.

Check a junk yard for transmissions, that'd probably be your best bet. Search eBay too. You never know what pops up there.

well i found one for 650.00 with 20,000 miles on it. its a close match im getting it thursday. is there any thing i should do to it before the install other than inspecting it for cracks and making sure theres fluid in it.

well i got my new used trans it has only 10081 miles on it when it was slamed in the rear i got a 90 day warenty with it . so tomorow i puting it in with a few other mods at the same time, short throw shifter, stage 2 clutch, monza cat back exhaust and a stupid strut bar. then we will see what gives next. ow yea they pulled the wrong trans for me they pulled a auto when i told them i had a 5 speed.

what were they smoking? but in the end i got one with less miles on it.
