okay kids, i'm debating buying the hp tuners for my 2.4 SS. just wanted a quick recap from anyone that had it if it's worth the loot.

basically, at this point, i don't see me doing anything other than a few bolt ons, and maybe a cam swap in the future, so my real question is. is it flexable and easy to use enough to justify the cost?

get some light mods first, intake n exhaust then get it tuned, it'll work better, i havent got the tune for my 2.4 yet but i will be shortly after i install my headers, cat-cabk, and intake

Honestly, if you're just doing bolt ons, I would find a shop or someone with hpt that can tune half decently.

I would only go with HPT if you have some sort of background in tuning. The software is some what user friendly but without a good knowledge of how the engine works you are just playing with fire.

This is whats holding me back. I feel i have a good general knowledge of what to change and what to look for but i'm still not confident enough to change stuff and see how the car likes it.

well then maybe you should get someone else to tune it for you , preferably someone who hsa done a few 2.4s already

So that means you have to buy the entire HPT set up to do this or can you by a credit from some one?

Im a little naive on this, but what Im doing is purchasinf two credits from a local member and borrowing the software and Im taking it to the tune/dyno shop....if you want more info about tuning check the tune section,or PM bigworm;)

The software is not the important piece it's the USB Module that is where all the cost comes from, Software and credits get you no where with out it.

I feel a basic tune should the the first mod you make.

The reason is because when your dad bought that nova in `72, the first thing he did was take it home and advance the timing, adjust the carb, and maybe flip the air filter lid. Now, in 2006, its the samething, but instead of a distributor wrench you turn a mouse, instead of jetting and floats you have MAFS and TBS. Timing and fuel modifications should always be the first on the list of mods.

To answer if its worth the cost of HPT, you have to wieght yourself. The ablity to scan and mod anything on any gm car is worth the cost to me. With the amount of money i've spend on my car, the cost of hpt is a drop in the bucket. I highly suggestion anyone interested in performance invest in hpt first instead of a scan gauge, or cool headlights. But to each his own.
