Your general Cobalt opinions, rants, stories.

As all know I'm still in the market for a Cobalt, so I'm still collecting information on the car. (I'm a very through / compulsive person) As the thread title suggests, please share anything about your make of Cobalt, and please list what model of the car it is. Crash stories, race stories, opinions, rants, anything about your Cobalt that affects your overall opinion on the car. Thanks!

the only real issue that i have is the econocar roots. all cars in this bracket are going to have small touches that are not "premium" all of them.

I have an 06 SS S/C and overall I love my car but there are a few things that **** me off. 1 dealership support. 2 launching is a bitch. 3 I need more money for mods. I like it, but it's probably getting replaced by an STi.

I am puzzled as to why GM didn't put proper gauges on the car. Heck my old base model Beretta had volts, temp, and oil pressure as well as tach. I would have liked to have all those gauges on this car. There is plenty of room; the tach and speedo could have been made smaller to accomodate the gauges.

07 ss/sc i love it. absolutly no problems. sure it doesnt launch well, but are there really any stock cars that launch absolutly perfect? no. every car has quirks you have to deal with, this one is no different, but i love it.

i love the car, an 06 2.2... If you take it for what it's worth, you won't be disapointed... some people just build it up to be something that it's not, those are the people that are disapointed... a few simple bolt ons really wake the car up, make a big difference in feel when driving...

i don't race much, but the car handles GREAT at high speeds... at the connecticut meet i was up around 115 120 mph and it felt just like driving at 60... first and only time i ever drove like that, and probably never will again...

i've only raced once or twice, not big on street racing at all... but i beat an mkIII supra by about 4 cars 0-70 the other day...

very true.

for a car in this pricerange I am extremely happy with my choice.
its quick. its solid. its cheap on gas....my dealership is awesome....i can get up to 250WHP completely with GM warrantied parts....

i dont have a bad word to say about it basically.

because i know that i bought a sporty econemy car with FWD.

buying one and then complaining about FWD...or that the interior isnt up to BMW standard?

kinda silly IMO.

My car is an excellent commuter. The seats aren't the most comfortable. It's not fast (2.2L M5). Build quality is very good, though the interior is a lot of plastic.

I got into this from a GTO, so I'm kinda let down, but the GTO doesn't come with as good a stereo, or OnStar... on the other hand, it's got comfortable leather seats, and most of the interior hard pieces are covered in vinyl or suede.

I like the G5, but I belong in a GTO, so I'll be trading it back in, in a few months.

case in point... see my above post...

with any car, make sure you research, sit in it, really take a look around... coming from a GTO, did you think a car with 145 hp would really feel fast?

Any Ferrari with launch control. mmm launch control, too bad we don't get it in the states anymore. Also most RWD and AWD cars can launch really well with a decent driver. AWD cars of course have this problem with exploding clutches but that's a different story. However, you are almost right, no FWD factory car will launch well let alone perfect.

Ok to the question posed by the thread starter. I still love this car every time I get in it. It puts a great smile on my face when I get into the boost and that SC starts whining. My only gripe is 1st gear. It's too short and pretty much useless for anything but normal daily driving. I can light the tires up in 1st gear at any time by punching it. It's partly because it's FWD but it's mainly because it was a poor choice for a 1st gear ratio. Other then that and the stupid placement of the oil filter I have no complaints. This car is easy to work on, easy to mod, good looking, and fun to drive. Oh yeah and it's cheap. There's nothing else I can think of that I would want out of it.

I think this is more the case with the driver. If the person knows how to launch, the car should, if healthy, be fine. Now if you have a shitty clutch, or someone who's just dumping the clutch or launching bad, those are more driver errors as opposed to mechanical failure.

Don't get me wrong - I love the car. I would keep this AND a GTO if I could, but I can't. It's one or the other, so the GTO wins... I just have this till I can put a good downpayment in.

it does what its made for very well. it gets from a to b. get decent gass mileage, and suits the "average" cutsomer. thats what it was made for.before this i had a 95 saturn 2 door and for a short time an evo, and honestly, i had more fun in the saturn, of course it had a bit of work done to it but even before that it was better. the springs are WAY to soft. the seats arn't the best, but they arn't the worst either. i got better gass mileage out of the saturn. it has too many blind spots, and i HATE the clutch, it has the feel of a light switch. the trunk is usless its deep but it should have been a hatch, you can't fit anything in it. it does have decent power tho, and the radio is nice. i guess you could say that i am unhappy over all with the car, but i did get into it under a bad situation. if i didn't work on high end cars and if i never had an evo i think i would have been happier with it. life has a way of changing and i HAD to get out of the evo. i got this as a last resourt. for the price i wasn't gonna get much better. its doing what it has to do be a car, just make sure you look at all your options before you buy.

and remeber i'm half in the bag right now so this might not make sense.

I absolutely love the superb handling characteristics of my SS/SC, making exit/on ramps exciting, shifting precision needs improving as well as traction, both are easy fixes with a few simple mods, overall I'm satisfied considering the price.

Yeah, but I need this car to build up my credit. A couple thousand in negative equity I can finance in a 6-8% loan is a tradeoff I'm willing to live with.

My thoughts exactly! I knew what I was getting when I purchased it and I couldn't be happier. People need to realize this is a $20k economy/sports car. Not a $50k BMW or $60k Corvette.

Okay, so I let the deal fall through so I don't have to deal with trading in a new car for which I'm upside-down on the loan. This will get me into the GTO faster. Just in case anyone cared for an update.
