Horrible GM techs
Horrible GM techs
Had an exhaust leak and the bracket holding the muffler and tip was never installed right so the exhaust tip wasn't centered. No big deal. Went to the dealer they fixed the leak and straightened the tip. Got in the the car fired it up and was like wtf is that noise!!. The tech never fastened the bracket back down properly. Again not a big deal other than I had to sit at the dearler for another fn 45 min. Service writer was cool. How do you not hear a rattle that bad, that as soon as you start the car its there and this donkey tech had to drive the car around the dealer lot to park!!!! Total wasted 3.5 hours of my day. Is this what I have to look forward to with GM techs?

not all techs are retarted. and you would be surprised at some of the **** we have to find. ya he may be stupid, but he could have been having a bad day in his life too. don't be so quick to judge. Not saying that there arn't bad techs. hell even in canada there crappy techs and we have to go to more school than the guys in the states.

There are some good techs, I'm one of them, or at least I like to think so. I take my time and try to have everything perfect. One of the reasons I don't do it anymore, takes to long to make stuff right and dealers don't like to pay their employees enough. So a lot of tech's half ass everything so they just get it out the door, especially under warranty. But the good techs usually the work already lined up for them for a day or two in advance cause they get the difficult jobs. If your what we call a "waiter" which is your waiting for your car, you'll just get the next available guy, and that would usually be some young guy they just hired from Jiffy lube so they don't have to have as many trained techs. That's why I became a mechanic so I don't have to let somebody else fix my car. But the job itself sucks so bad I started to hate cars, so now I only work on cars now and then so I don't get burnt out.

But like any trade, being good relies on a couple things:
1. Actually careing about your job
2. Who you learnt it from
3. Some brains help but not always required.
4. genuine love of what you do.
5. a good boss.
