Locked my engine up tonight warning for those wanting 2.7
Well that about says it I tried putting on my 2.7 tonight to replace the 2.85 on the supercharger and well lets just say it didn't work out to well put it on and tried cranking the engine ha bad idea. I turned it on and it immediatley began squeeling and smoking the belt so bad it locked the engine cleared some dtc's with my guages and notice the pulley had carved itself into the supercharger snout. And after the fun of removing the screws which had just been "locktighted" (a sealer/ glue for screws), I and my dad for about an hour had to dremel the snout first back to normal with no damn deep crevaces from pulleys being ground in them we finally got the son of a bitch to work. Just goes to show you, that you should be careful about what anybody says "should" work on your cars... especially website companies maybe even one from this site.
Well not out of them realm of possibility I would say highly illogical b/c I put the 2.85 on just fine and double checked the screws and clearance before starting the car I also pushed the car in reverse to make sure the belt was correctly lined up. I don't know what could have gone wrong other than the pulley maybe being slightly off from manufacturer.
I assume this is with the ZZP pulley? The same thing happened to a buddy of mine. Got the 2.6", put it on, and ground his snout up and practically welded the pulley to his snout. Even though, it says "requires no snout machining" it does require snout shaving. It took me about 30 minutes with a file to get my 2.6" pulley to clear the snout.
I don't know if you did something wrong. but i did notice when i took my billetflow 2.7 off to put the 2.9 back on after 7500 miles. the inside of the ring did have some wear from it touchhing the SC. but no big stuff. just the color worn off a bit.
Yes. but that was before i put the belt on, so maybe the pressure from the belt did something but I torqued the screws to 14ft pounds and put locktight on them so I am dumbfounded.

to answer the question, yes you can go back to a stock pulley after machining the snout. it doesnt affect the shaft, just reduces the amount of material on the outside edge of the snout so the back of the pulley doesnt rub
From what I've seen, every snout is slightly different from the next. Perhaps the machining process isn't very exact. I'd say better to be safe than sorry, and grind it down just a bit before throwing anything on that looks like it may be a close call.
