Has anyone installed a switch to disable T/C?
Has anyone installed a switch to disable T/C?
I am very aware of that there are only 2 ways to disable the T/C on an automatic. These are either by putting the car into L or by pulling the ebrake. What i want to do is find out what is tripped by the ebrake when you engage it and find away to put a switch of my own in the circuit so that i can turn T/C on or off whenever I wanted. Has anyone done this yet or have any information that may help?
What's this traction control thing? Oh...yeah I don't have it.
But I'd say find some way to tune it out of there.
Ya know, I just thought about it, my moms G6 has a button built in to disable TC so there has to be a way to do it.

You really need to drive in snow to understand how bad this feature is. When you pull out into traffic and your car basically dies because the TC knows more than you, things get tense very fast! I actually got stuck in the snow in the parking lot at work because of the TC, had to shift to low
! Shifting to low is a option, but I didn't buy an automatic to shift gears (LAZY). I think not having a switch to turn TC off is one of the worst features GM put on this car for us Midwesterners.

true, you would also deal with your lights turning off as they will do that at night if the ebrake is pulled. At least mine do. But hey, as this site shows, almost every cobalt is completly different
I wonder if getting a wiring diagram from a g5 or another car that is similar to ours that has a switch would narrow down how to do this. The chime would get annoying real fast.
Disabling safety equipment on a car is ill advised...when you sell the car, you would have to disclose this....if taking off TC involves disabling warning chimes and other things...not good...
Have you checked with Chevy/dealership? Maybe there is an "official" procedure to do this....

The only chime that you would have to disable is the one that tells you the parking brake is on and it would only be disabled when you want to turn T/C off with the switch. If you had the T/C on still with the switch and engaged the ebrake then it would still chime. So your really not removing anything. As far as the dealership I was told there is no way to disable it.
somehow this seems like a troll post...unless the 2.4 is programmed differently, no 2.2 has a feature that turns the lights off when the ebrake is on....i pull mine up when driving all the time (raining...feel like hydroplaning up to the next stop sign) like last night...no light issues
I still don't understand what the problem is with traction control. I live up here in snowy Canada and drive in the snow. So far I have had no problems. If anything the TC should help you out in the snow better. Isn't that what it's for? Also the DIC indicates when it's on and off.
While on the topic, I believe certain models of the caviler had a switch where you could turn the TC on and off. It's sister car the sunfire had the same I believe.
