2.4 SS/NA Gas Miliage

I mostly drive back and forth on the highway, doing about 100-120 KPH
I have the car for 3 weeks now with 1400 KM on the Odometer.

I barely get 500 KM to a tank of gas, approx 9.9L/100 KM

One point when it was snowing hard, I drove to work doing 60 KPH, it went down to 9.5L/100 KM

I ONLY put 91 gas in her.
I rarely shift over 4K.

Is the breaking in of this new car causing this?
and if so, how long until things get better.

Thats weird! I run ONLY 93 octaine in mine and in town I get around 28 mpg and on the highway she gets 35 mpg at 80 mph. It goes up if I slow down. Best I got was 38 mpg.

Unfortunatley your getting response in MPG! My expeinces relate ery closely to your own.

I can help you better. I bought a 2dr 5 speed 2.4L SS back in Aug/05.

I drive most of my communt on a highway--4 sets of lights there and 5 on the way home.
In the mornings I can do the speed limit or better (100+ km/h) afternoons--its bumper bumper--massive traffic volume anyhwere from 10-40km/h almost the whole time on the highway.

I was shfting at 3K I'd say---and I got 8.2L-8.5L/100kms.

The other difference was it was summer/fall---are you letting the car dile for long periods?

That affects gas mileage was well.

Fast forward to now--had the 4 dr/auto SS for 5 weeks. During the first month I average 9.5L.

So my guess is that its your driving (higher rpm shifting)/ exceesive idling. You are a bit on the high side--when an uato 4 dr can match or beat you.

Your mileage will improve as the car wears in. I just got my first oil change this week and it's improved quite a bit (went synthetic, maybe part of the reason..). I got horrid gas mileage until hitting at least 2000 miles.

I had a 2 hour highway driver just last night and I reset the average speed and mpg figures just after attaining highway speed.

At an average of 77mph, I was getting 26.5 mpg.

I've never been able to beat 30mpg on the highway in this car. In fact, if I do the same trip in the GF's base auto G5, it gets 33mpg.

Ya Avro I'm a 2.4L.. I've tried 91 octane but it never gets better. Maybe its the fact I don't have my muffler anymore too? Back pressure thing maybe?? The fact over half my 13,000km's are city doesn't help

BTW we won't get the best gas mileage or performance of these cars until about 10,000 mi. But you should notice a difference at around 5000mi.

In my 07 I am at 29.8 mpg and I've only put in 300mi so far with 87 octane. And I haven't been taking it that easy. I've had her up to about 4300 rpms in low gears, and 75mph on the freeway(varying speeds of course). But I still haven't put the pedal to the floor, only about 3/4.

So I don't know what you guys are doin.

I don't know how you drive.

For me I have a 2.4 06.. if I drive spirited and drive like a race car I get about 10.9L/100km ( witch sucks but I'm having lots of fun ).

Filled it earlier today took it slow since it was clean and didn't want to get it dirty with the snow melting. Drove back and forth for about 200km and looked at the milage. 8.4L/100KM. I've gone over 525KM quite a few times, it always depends on what I do or how I drive.

I put in 89 octane for the past two weeks, it does eat a bit more of gas but not that bad. I've got Mobil 1 oil since about 3 weeks ago and the car seems to handle more. Maybe just in my head.

If you live where the weather is shitty at this present time your mpg is going to suck, no matter how you drive.

I get 30-32 Highway only ~65-70MPH and 20-22 City in moderate traffic. My long running average over 4k miles was 25.5 MPG.
