well I have an 05 and I don't know the differences but on mine, the lever to the left of the steering wheel you just flick it back towards you and it will say auto lights disables in the DIC

Not sure it can be permenently turned off but just turn the headlight switch backward when you start the car that shuts off the auto light feature. Flipping that little switch really isn't that hard. I do it every day.

Maybe find a way to rig up the sensor located on the dash. Take apart and ground the wires maybe?

Make it tell your computer it sees light even when it dosen't.

Maybe you could get a hold of the manufacture and find out why they arte burning out prematurely.
May you have the wrong model no. for the Cobalt ,somthing simple like that.

Hi guys i have the same question(permanently turn off auto lights). I have a set of projectors coming and i also have an 07. I am going to be putting hid's in the projectors and i don't want them on all the time. Am i correct in thinking that the lows would be on as the drls? or would the highs be on for drl's? Thanks!

With some cars you can use a tech 2 and disable them that way. But, I don't own a tech 2 and my buddy sold his so I don't have access to try that. If anyone knows someone at a dealer I would say head up there and check it out and let us know. I want to disable mine too for an 07.

to disable the DRLs you pull the fuse under the hood, and the DRLs will never come on agian, (unlessy you put the fuse back in) and on the 05-06 the parking lights are the DRLs, and on the 07s its the low beams as the DRLs

but agian, I want to knowhow to disable the auto light feature, so that I turn the headlights on and off not the car automatical, lol

Ok thanks. How about if you put a switch for the whole light system and just flip it on at night? That might do what you want and would probably be fairly easy. Do you know if I could wire the projectors so that the drl's are the high beam bulb? Thanks

You can't disable the auto lights to my knowledge. I tried using the tech 2, you can't change anything with the auto lights. There was no procedure that I found to disable them. If they really bother you, just shut them off, thats what I did. Eventually I stopped caring, and just leave the little orange corners on anyway, no matter how stupid they look.

I like the orange corners, too. I always like driving up behind a semi (you know the ones that have reflective backs on em) on the interstate and seeing it glowing orange, or catching the reflection of them on a building's windows.

The orange DRLs are actually one of the first things i look for when spotting balts (especially from a distance). I'm always disappointed when I see what I think is a Cobalt approaching, but then the glowing orange turns out to be the DRLs of one of those ugly ass new Malibus...

Well if there are only 2 leads going to the sensor, then if you connected them it would probably be like there was constant sunlight. But i don't know for sure?

The Tech2 is able to do this. The reason I know, is I couldn't get my dash lights to come on when I turned on the lights manually. Anyway, there is a setting to disable the drl's. The tech did this in an attempt to get my dash lights to come on when I manually turn on the headlights (it didn't work). It is a huge safety concern (cobalts get a discount for DRL's) and I am not sure how many dealerships will condone you turning off a safety feature.
Now, if you had a buddy, he might be able to turn them off for you.

When I get home tonight, I'll post the different computer settings (for the vcm) from before to after to give an idea which controller handles the lights.

lol OMG!!

I have the DRLs disabled, I just pulled the fuse! I DOnt need to have these disabled, everyone keeps telling me how to do this and I dont need to ! I already have it done,

I want the headlights soo there not automatic, so I have to manualy turn the lights off and on, not if its too dark they come on automaticaly, lol

so NO MORE DRLs comments, I know all about them!! More than I want to know! lol I know there a safety feature, and its illegal to disable them and yeah....

How do I disable the automatic headlight feature, were if its dark they come on automaticaly, and when its light out they stay off, lol soo far all I have is to jump those 2 wires going to the sensor together, and like DOC said get into the computer and do it there, I want to be able to turn the switch anytime night or day and the head lights and the dashlights come on. lol

This seems like a lot of work to just save one second of your day by flipping the switch.
::::shrug:::: Maybe its just me but aren't you wasting more time trying to disable them then you could ever spend turning the headlight switch backward?

Oh well best of luck, I guess.
