Sunroof button trim-- fell off.

My sunroof button trim has been loose for a month or so now, and today upon pressing the 'open' button, it just fell off.. Took some pictures of it missing, as well as the passenger side door panel where a lot of us are having a problem, as well.. Going to be calling the dealer to get these things fixed up...

Everybody has been having this problem, myself included. Its only a matter of time for you Zinner. As for the door, I see the fabric peeling out from under the trim ring. I have leather, so hopefully I'll avoid that.

Look at the lower left part of the handle thing, you'll see the material isn't long enough to go under the plastic..

Yeah, the sunroof should be an easy fix.. I think i've read that the whole door panel fabric gets replaced and that may take a bit of time...

Looking at the sunroof trim piece, I'm not even sure how it was held on, it doesn't look like any fabric glue since there are no marks, and there aren't any clips or something like that..

I knew that issue on the door existed for leather, that's the first I've seen with it on cloth. I think the problem with that is they're trying to save from having to pay someone tho have to slice the hole and fold it under, the way it should be, they probably have a machine punch the hole, maybe even in the fabric and the panel at the same time. this becomes a problem because the fabric/leather is streched to conform to the curve, after some period of time the fabric/leather want's to go back to it's original size.
Looks like the general won't realy save any money on that in the long run.

anybody work at the factory that can confirm or prove wrong my theory?

I think the sunroof trim thing stays on by fiat, in other words, it stays on because it is declaired to stay on. Yes, the word fiat has meaning other than the italian car manufacturer

Code:
#arbitrary order or decree

# A sanction; decree.

# The affirmative right to state that the machinery and personnel will be made available for the plan to come into existence

# (Latin). Literally, let it be done. Order, command, decision, or statute of an authoritative power.

I had the same trim problem with my passanger side door.. They sent it out to some local shop that just reglued it perfect. Then my passanger side window stopped working a couple weeks later and when they fixed it they screwed up the trim on the passanger side and drivers side. Guess I get to do it all over again.

Wait a few months, and then make the same comparison. Hopefully the results will be different for the 06' models... Yours is probably only a few weeks old, right? I'd hope your not having interior problems at this point in time

GM is currently working (slowly) on a fix for the door panels that were cut short. it does affect 2005 and 2006 model years. dealers have been told not to replace the panels just yet until they release the updated parts, but most dealers are replacing the panels anyways to keep the customers happy.

i also remember seeing a pi bulletin or something about the sunroof button bezel coming loose, but can't remember exactly, i will check on that.

i know that alot of people with build dates of 05/05 ended up with door panels cut too small so the material pulls out of the door handle trim. i know mine sure did.

Ah, my interior is leather, so the door isn't a problem, the sunroof button is what fell off. I still need to have them fix it..
