Look up the quantity in your manual.

Put the car on a level surface. Let the oil settle into the pan for about a half hour and check it. If it is in the safe zone ( the notched area on the dipstick) you are OK.

yes, it's more like 6.5. the 2.2 is 5, so they probably got it confused. if i was you i would call up and get the extra 1.5 quarts along with another free oil change.

The oil line on the dipstick is 1 notch above the Minimum line. Should I go to a parts place and get a quart and put it in?

It is supposed to be 6.5 qts. I would just spend the $12 and buy 2 quarts of oilt and put it in myself. Why even bother traveling 80 miles round trip just to get the extra quart and a half.

Sure why not. You're okay, but if you really want to it won't hurt anything.

As long as the oil level is anywhere between the add and full line, you are satisfactory.

If it says 5 quarts on your oil change receipt they screwed you out of a quart and a half... the LSJ takes 6+ quarts. I'd call them up and raise hell.... get some free **** out of it. Then go to the parts store and pick up the other quart or so and slap it in.

I had the same problem last weekend. Definately raise hell and make sure that you talk to the service manager.

umm, if it's ok on the dip stick, then why hasn't anyone thought that maybe they did put enough in and just wrote down 5 qts really quickly, not really thinking about it?

If your dipstick is reading in the "ok" level zone, they put more than 5qts in. Most places automatically print 5qts on the reciept.

The dealership I work at does. The reason why is because oil changes are a "set" price, so they automatically bill out 5qts of oil.

For example, someone comes in with a 3.8L Impala. Oil change costs them $24. The motor takes 4.5qts of oil. The bill reads 5qts.
Next someone comes in with a Monte Carlo SS, 5.3L. Oil change costs them $24. The motor takes 6.5qts of oil. The bill reads 5qts.

I wouldnt worry about it, chances are that they write 5qts of every oil change, but the tech should know how much each motor takes.
