Thumbs up Whitfield Racing Cobalt Pics 3/31/07, 56k = death

Well today I went out to Los Angeles County Raceway (LACR) to watch the Import Drag Racing Championship (IDRC). I was told Jason Whitfield's Cobalt would be in attendance and figured I'd drop by to see what kind of power this thing has.

I'm VERY impressed with the car despite the sh**ty conditions out at the track today, NO ONE could get traction today it seemed.

Even though traction was a problem, Whitfield was still able to run a 10.26 at 145mph. He advanced to the semis before loosing on a wholeshot by the other car.

Here's some pictures from today of Whitfield's car:

Cool pics! I really like the one where you got it just as the tires started to twist--cool action shot. I don't know anything about that Cobalt, what kind of numbers does it put up? And it appears to be a turbocharged 2.0L? Those little wheels in the rear look really dumb though. I know it's not about looks, but it's just an observation. I can see people asking about that hood though, it's better looking than the one on the 272 concept IMO.

Oh, you're probably right, I just assumed it was a 2.0 since that's the engine that was engineered for forced induction. Plus, it has an SS/SC front bumper. Pretty cool car no matter what engine it has if it's over 1,000 hp.

It's a 2.2L but was destroked to 2.0. And it makes 834 hp on pump gas, 900+ on racing fuel. Car has made 9 second passes before.

Yup, there was an article in HCI (Hot Compact and Imports) that talked about how he could go get an In N Out Burger if he wanted to. The car is just plain sick. Period.

I wouldn't consider it a waste when you're out there racing and it got you sponsored by Chevy. Plus the 100k was probably a cumulative amount based on the number of times he's changed things on the motor, spare parts, ect.

I've read all about the car. Its destroked from a 2.2 to a 2.0L. I don't know how much power it puts down on pump but I have a hard time believeing it puts down 800+. I have never seen a car with that little of displacement put down that much on pump even with meth. I heard people trying to get a hold of him and everybody says hes an ass.
