What's the number of plucks on the clutch mean? I've noticed that some clutchs have the same hold power, but different number of plucks. I was told that one is more aggressive than the other, but what does that translate into as far as how heavy it feels and how forgiving it is? Thankyou for the help with this noob question.

 

ummm i'm not sure...but i'm almost possitive that the 4 puck clutch is for like drag only. 4 puck isn't for regular driving or u'll mess it up. the 6 puck is for regular drive and u can also race with it and what not. atleast i think thats what it is. y? r u goin for an after market clutch? there aren't too many i'm over all impressed with. i heard clutch master clutches aren't good. but idk.

Less pucks means less friction material to touch the flywheel, which means you need more pressure to make it hold and it has a harsh engagement. It also stays cooler under repeated hard use than a full-face or 6 puck. The less area you have and the more power you want to hold, the more clamping force you need to use. The more clamping force you need to use the stiffer the pedal is gonna be. Go full-face on the street, or maybe 6-puck if the car is really radical.

 

sp th six puck clutch is just supposed to be full race or drag right? i have the spec stage 3 with 6 puck disc and it is being put in now so is my pedal gonna be really stiff then?

 

The 6 puck is like an extreme street/strip. You can drive it on the street, but it will take work getting used to it. My bud with a turbo RSX has a spec stage 4, and the friction point is instant, you go from nothing to everything in about 1/4 inch of pedal travel. They can be tuned for different charecteristics with different friction materials. Stage 3 is the most mild 6 puck out there that I have seen.

 

so what will i need to do to get used to it? when will it engage and will the pedal be like harder to push down at all? is it going to be a pain to drive now?

 

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on what you like and what you think is stiff. Some people don't mind, others think its bad. Engagement will be faster, more direct. You will have to rev more/slip the clutch more to take off smoothly without stalling, but how much depends on the application and if you are using a lightened flywheel. You just have to drive it and get a feel for it. Shouldn't be difficult, just different.

 

my buddy has a stage 2 in his cavy. it's a tad bit different. the higher the stage, generally the harder and stiffer it is. ummm but the stage 2 is just a little harder, its not much... so i expect stage 3 to be the same. just a little bit stiffer. if worst comes to worst, just hit up the gym and work out your left leg! atleast u'd be ripped...in the left leg that is. hahaha

Ight so 6 puck has less pedal movement and instant ingaugement and is more for a drag? What would be the ideal setup for street racing and some drag every once in awhile? I havent heard much about the bully clutches but is clutchmasters shitty, what about the spec clutches? I would like to go w/ the Spec S3 but I dk what puck to get? So what is my ideal clutch?
