Buying Hurst shifter
Buying Hurst shifter
I am probably going to end up buying the hurst short throw tomorrow i was just wondering if anyone had any opinions about it, just a little curious about what im getting.
The entire install took about 45 minutes. The hardest part was getting the lower cable connector off the stock shifter since you have to do it blind, but it comes off. Just make sure that you use the Loc-tite ob the set screw and knob...otherwise you will have to go back and reinstall the shifter (it will come loose).
We have 50+ of these in stock at a very low price

just installed mine 20 minutes ago...
When they say MARK the cable.. DO it... it was extremely helpful...
The new hurst knob is 90* off... so you might need to buy some washers so it stops with the grid facing the rear
The new shifter doesnt feel shorter at all... dont know why, but it works and im happy
Word of advice....
When putting the connector back onto the bottom ball of the new shifter (which connects the the linkage), the directions say to put the shifter into the housing, bolt it down, then attach the connected to the ball... DONT DO THAT.. you have to use ~over 50lbs of force to snap the connecter to the ball. Connect it first, then fish it through the housing in your console. You will see once you get there.
It was all easy, took a while because i took my time.. Directions looked confusing, but as you are looking at it on your car, it is really easy. However, i really have to force it to the right to get into reverse.. The lockout works.. and 1-5 are perfect, but i really have to force it to the right and down to get into reverse... That is the least of my worries . I would rather have 1-5 work properly.
you will know you did it wrong if you can go ALL the way to the right and get into reverse without the lockout. MARK MARK MARK with a sharpy.
sorry for the jumlbed thoughts... just spitting them out as it came to my head

And DEFINITELY MARK the cable!!!
The shifter itself doesn't seem shorter, but the actual shifts are MUCH shorter in my opinion. Reverse lockout works as well, no issues!
after driving it today... it just makes my ride so much more enjoyable.. i dont know if it is psycological or not... i loved the stock shifter... i think its just that cold feeling in my hand (gonna suck in the winter) and just running through the gears like there is no tomorrow... that did it for me
and yes reverse lockout works

I did mine. Reverse lockout doesnt work, but I'm phoning Hurst tomorrow to check about it.
syP - adjust the left cable connection a little to get it easier to go into reverse.
I personally love the feel of the shifter, and the fact thats its all metal and not cheap plastic.

What you need to do is adjust the left (white) cable! Put the shifter in neutral mark & unlock the white connector and bring the shifter about 3/8 of an inch to the left, Lock the white connector back in place and this should eliminate searching for 5th gear
It worked for mine.
This should take care of the reverse lockout as well.
