how reliable are the cobalt ss/sc's?
i plan on looking at an 06 leftover silver ss/sc just because the guy is going to give me a good deal on the car. now getting back to my question how reliable are these cars? the only thing i have heard that the clutches in them are weak is that true? thank you for your help
ive heard diffrently...clutchs are one of the strongest parts on these cars unless ur always beating in it..like 6 days out of the week...but they are really nice cars for the money,and are worth it..ohh did i mention they are cheap to mod?
most people have solved there clutch issues (including myself) by NEVER shifting below 3000 RPM. These clutches don't like low rev shifting and will glaze over, resulting in terrible slippage.
This along with not riding the clutch during launches should make your clutch pretty dependable until you reach really severe horsepower levels.

dude theyre reliable for the most part... just keep in mind that it is a newer model and it might take them a little while to work out all the problems, but its reliable. Also beings its a newer model, the dealer i go to is always willing to work on it just for the experience :-)

But in all honesty, this method WORKS. Shortly after stage 2, I had catastrophic clutch slip because i always use to shift at low RPM thinking i was saving gas.
However, after reading that article, i tried always shifting at 3000 or higher, and since then, i have never slipped, not even once. Even after adding several more mods and driving the car rather "spritedly" every day.

I smoked the clutch early (2,500 miles) at the track slipping it in second gear... but I stopped beating the crap out of it and continued to add miles to it! The clutch ain't great but it will last if treated half decent. I am rolling on stock original clutch and have 41,000 + miles on my 05. I shift below 3k all the time I just don't hold the accel to the floor after that hell the car pulls itself at even lower revs. in Fact shift at 3k to get decent fuel milage. and at 55 60 mph set the cruise and leave it in 4th if the highway is a little up and down... that will really save you gas!
You can overmod any engine. But of course it's easier to do this with some than others.
