When do cobalt SS trannys explode?

Just wondering, anyone detonated one yet? What HP/TQ levels does it take for the stock tranny to die?

As does everything else in the universe, the trannys explode when Jack Bauer says so.

The killer, besides driver error, is at about 330tq. I am told the horsepower isn't to bad but the tq is very hard on some of the weaker parts such as the cast iron input shaft.

Ah, thank you. yeah torque is a tranny killer. those immediate 12psi downshifts make transmissions hate life im sure. Cast iron input? Ouch, any aftermarkets availiable for that yet?

No. I tried to get a company to make them for my project, but the cost was way out there so I chose to do something totally different.

Yeah, HP doesn't mean much to a transmission, it is the torque you have to watch out for. I believe the recommended max torque for the fe35 is around 280 TQ.

I'm pretty sure thats just what it was tested to, not what it actually maxed out at.

That being said, it hasn't been tested above 280 so it may actually break.

That was a lot less confusing in my head, but what I'm trying to say is that it won't necessarily snap at 281 lb-ft, but don't be surprised if it does either.

Well, I've broke 2 third gears so far so I would say arount 270-280ish wtq. My torque numbers are almost identical to my HP numbers, so that is probably my issue. I'm in the process of aquiring parts and doing a slight beefing up, so I'll keep everyone posted how a mildly beefed up tranny holds up.
