gm performance parts offers a blower for the 2.4 cavys i was curious if anyone knows if that same setup can be tossed into the newer 2.4s with equal results....now that the solstice and sky are out

nope the 2.4 twin cam is alot different than the 2.4 eco vvt

you can use the 2.0 s/c parts , as it is a eco also

Man, those 2.4L were 150 hp stock. You're telling me the blower only adds 40 more hp. I dunno if I'd spend that kinda cash for 40 ponies.

well my last dyno was 140 to the wheels , before the header and high flow cat , and the best of 16.0 @ 84 in the 1/4

i havent dyno'd with the s/c and head and high flow , but so far my best is a 14.88 @ 92 mph

so that is more than a 40 hp gain , and i have had good cool weather for the s/c yet

and i know someone that has the 2.0 s/c's supercharger on his 2.2 eco cav and has put down 220 with the stock 1 7/8" exhaust , and ran mid to low 14's

Very impressive numbers!!!

thank you

im hoping to get it on the dyno this weekend , if the deal goes through , if not itll be in a couple weeks , gotta let it cool a little more around here , LOL

Do u have an intercooler? ....Are u running with the stock pully?

no intercooler , ive got 1 of the few proto type 2.4 twin cam s/c's , so im not sure of the pulley size during the heat i see up to 7psi , and when i get the right amount of cold air ive seen up to 9

97 cavie24ls's ride is pretty quick. i raced him on the freeway starting at 75mph, and barely pulled on him.

What size throttle body you sporting? The injectors bigger?

59mm tb , cai filter in the bumper , pacesetter header , 2 1/4"pipe into a 2 1/4" magnaflow high flow cat , magnaflow 2 1/4" cat back

motor has 102,000 , as does the trans and its not in the best shape

ive got 225/45/17 azenis sports , wilwood front 12.2 brakes , and a copy of the baer 12" rears

way to stay up to date , lol

yeah it went off

alot of people ive talked with have heard of problems when trying to boost a car with variable cam timing like the 2.4 has , cause it changes to often

but i will be trying it when/if i get a 2.4 cobalt

What a lot of vendors who don't take the time to correctly deal with VVT on a *charged system do is they just disable it via the ECU. It's a very dirty work around but it works. If they took the time and had the resources to correctly learn and tune the VVT it could be done correctly.

If the information is correct and the Solstice GXP is based off a Turbocharged VVT ECOTEC then there's proof right there it can be done correctly.

actually im under the impression that GM is having problems with the solstice and boost with the vvt , which is why the 2.0 keeps being rumored to be the motor they will have for boost

honestly GM would be better off using the 2.0 head on the 2.4 , then boost it

VVT with variable boost like a turbo is VERY hard to deal with. VVT with boost based on rpm is easy to deal with.

Meaning using a Supercharger would permit much easier adaptation of VVT to the new system in other words?

The new pics of the Solstice with boost does not have a S/C, so I assume it is turbo

s/c boost is variable also

it all depends where your foot happens to be on the go pedal

No matter what you do with an S/C the maximum pressure for a given engine rpm is always the same. Anything less is related to throttle position.
With a Turbo you can have maximum boost pressure at any rpm because of exhaust pressure.

max boost per rpm , with your foot on the floor would be constant

but ive been able to hold my s/c to 2-3 psi while under accel , and have been able to regulate it with out being at max boost

but the s/c is alot more predictable on boost per rpm then a turbo would be , but that also depends on the size of the turbo , because you can size them on the small side and keep it closer to max boost alot sooner

Both are pumps

One is direct S/C
One is variable Turbo

4 stroke engine intake compression power exhaust
2.4L VVT is higher than normal static compression
used for S/C engines
Can you guess in what stroke one can "bleed off"
compression using the VVT technology to be able
to run a super?

So back to the topic. If I already have the 2.4L engine, can I just swap the 2.0L head and the supercharger on and make it work? If so, is it a bolt on deal or I have to do some fab work? Thanks

This swap will entail some advanced research into the correlation between the higher 2.4L compression, amount of usable boost and the ecm reprogramming among other variables.
This would be better left to a "packaged product/system" instead of donor approach.
That is what I was leaning to in my 26-10-2005 post.
