I was in walmart just to pass some time while my wife is out of town... goin through the car section and i saw the turtle wax "ICE" liquid wax....
I usually will never buy anything they have to push that hard with tv commercials because i believe a product should be able to sell itself.... but with the wife out of town i figured what the hell so i coughed up and spent $16 on some car wax.... well 2 hours after i got home it was the best money i have spent in a long long long time... the only complaint i have has nothing to do with the wax itself but more the paint job chevy did on the cobalts.... the shine is freekin amazing but you can see all of the imperfections in the paint from the factory... and all the plastic (black on the mirrors, grill inserts.. stupid mudflaps the previous owner opted for when he ordered the car...) the stuff that gets ruined when you get regular wax on it.... SHINES... so if you got the cash and 2 hours on your hands go pick some "ICE" liquid wax... wash it... wax it.... crack a cold one and sit in your driveway with a smile on your face.

Sounds like a plan. Now if only I could get 2 hours of free time lol. As for the imperfections it would not be a bad idea to wash the car first. Then use a clay bar, then wax. Should help take care of most of those imperfections.

I have been a die hard mcguires fan for the last 10 years and own the whole line.... and the ice put them to shame... as far as the clay bar it imperfections from prep on an assembly line... not noticeable unless you really really really look for them... i should have been more clear about that... and the car was thouroughly washed that was part of the 2 hours that comes with the territory.... the imperfections are just minor minor dimples and waves... the stuff that you wouldnt see with maybe 1 or 2 additional coats of color and another layer of clear... but then again its a 21k compact not a 50k corvette so i cant fault chevy on that one... i wouldnt give up my car for anything... except maybe a z06 or a evo x just to have the "family" car.

i used all if it

Liquid ClayBar
Wax
Polish(detail spray)

and it looks amazing!!! the detail spray really works between washes & the liquid claybar is easy... shake it, apply it, rinse it off... & the wax does wonders too. I did mine back in april & the water still beads like the day i put it on :twothumbs for a great product...

Even a detail buddy of mine was inpressed about how well it did, he even bought some for his car

I just bought the liquid clay bar. Used it on my hood, bumper, and front corner panels. It really seems to work quiet well. The rest of the car is soon to come. Have'nt got a chance to use the wax yet. Still got some free Egale 1 nanowax that I'm working through.

Ive heard decent things about the ICE wax. The only downfall with it is durability because it does not last very long. But for someone looking to wax there car quickly, it isnt bad at all. The liquid claybar is pure garbage. Nothing will beat the real claybar. I love Meguiar's claybar kit. You get 2 bars (Only need half of one for a car), wax, detailer, and microfiber towel for $18

Turtle Wax has me listed as a product tester. They send me new products and then I write reviews on them. They sent me the ICE stuff to try, here is my writeup on it.

http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/detailing/100577-review-on-some-turtle-wax-products/

There are tons of better products out there that work much better for less money. Duragloss lineup has tons better stuff. #101/#105 combo will blow ICE out of the water, and both cost less than ICE polish.

I think detailing has more-so to do with prep work. In this pic you will see a black c5 waxed with ICE, next to a red c6z waxed with the almighty Zaino.. Is there REALLY any difference? Other than the fact that a Zaino kit will run you $100

i bought the turtle wax ice a few days ago and ill say its decent. if the paint is already great looking, car has been clay barred, then its going to look good. it took around an hour and a half or so for the wax to haze over in the shade, so it needs to be done in sunlight!

but i wasnt impressed with turtle wax at all. the only thing that i liked about it was the fact it could be smeared on plastic trim without the white residue. so im sticking to the mothers still.

oh yeah, NEVER USE TURTLE WAX ICE CLAY BAR!!!!!!!!! it does NOTHING!

True, but for someone who wants to wax there car once a month, and quickly, it really doesnt matter how long Zaino lasts. Not everyone wants to drop $100 on a Zaino kit..they just want quick/cheap solutions.

I bought an ICE kit as Costco for $20, it came with a microfiber towel, an appplication pad, the liquid wax, and the spray-on liquid detailer. It did not take long to do. It was good enough to make me think that other waxes can't do SO much better than this, and I think ICE was a good price too. I want to try the liquid clay bar. I also used the ICE car wash, that worked really great.

Looking back, I don't think I let it haze over, I waited a few minutes like it the product said, and I just went at it. Still came out fine though.

On side note, I read this earlier in the thread, this does in fact bring out imperfections in the paint, I have one dimple and few small scratches.

Here are pictures.
Before:
http://photos-397.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sctm/v97/171/4/110200397/n110200397_30049637_4369.jpg
After (washed and waxed):
http://a309.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/118/l_800303d0311d7093af7ba199df3debd4.jpg

I know its not the same angle but you get the idea.

If you'll notice the wheels here, I only washed them, no wax or anything:
http://a914.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/72/l_5ec7d91d2cd63acee4dd29b322fc3c31.jpg

So everything taken into cosideration, I would only switch from ICE to try other products because this is the only one I have ever tried, but I am extremely happy with it.

whats the difference between a clay bar and liquid clay bar? i know ICE makes liquid clay bar. is that any good

HotSauce
07-26-2007, 10:16 PM
The liquid claybar is junk. Its just a bunch of fillers to produce a smooth surface. The real claybar will pull up all the contaminants in/on the paint and produce a smooth and clean surface ready for wax.

ICE is not a wax folks, its a polish, think of it like step 4 in a 3 Stage wax  But, if you use it like that it's quite good. You can use it on the plastic, shines the car well, but it's gone after 2 or 3 washes.
Do Not buy the liquid clay bar.. it does not work, you have to use a real clay bar.

so ICE isnt that good of a wax? what would yall prefer?

What would I prefer? Well, here is my short list...in no particular order.

Paste Waxes:
P21S Concours
Victoria Concours Red Wax
Poorboy's Natty's Blue
Meguiars #16 Paste Wax
Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax

Liquid Waxes And Sealants:
Klasse High Gloss Sealant
Collinite Liquid Insulator Wax #845
Optimum Poli-Seal
EX-P Pure Sealant

I'm sure most of you haven't heard of any of these. Mainly because they aren't over the counter products. I tend to stay away from anything that can be bought at Wal-Mart, since your paying for a name, and products that don't perform as good as most of these boutique waxes.

Needless to say, nothing with the Turtle Wax brand name on it will ever touch my car. The only over the counter brand that I'll even consider is Meguiars, but that's it.

ice is great.
so is eagle one nano.
super fast easy great shine.
but that deep shine from a high quality liquid/paste wax isnt there, I dunno about you, but i can see a difference in the red and black vettes.
and your lucky if it will still be there a week from now in hot weather.
I use it more as a quick detailer.
its great if you have little time, but your ok with doing it alot more often.

for a full wax I use Mothers pure carnuba solid wax, in the big round tin.
love that stuff.

I just purchased a 3 step system from a company in Vegas - www.glare.com

90% of the detailing shops around here use it - one of them has the contract for the ambulances and police cars. It works REALLY well. The website is annoying as hell though.

I think the thing most of you guys are neglecting to see is that ICE only fills in imperfections where a real clay bar will help to remove them by lifting them away. One is like putting a bag over an ugly chicks face while you do her the other is like getting her a facelift.

Anyway, I bought some ICE claybar and wax and I intend to do half my hood with it and half with Meqs claybar and gold class wax. I hope to be able to get an accurate comparison between each that way. I will keep people posted in the coming weeks on how it does.

meguiar's gold class liquid but switching to paste once the bottle is empty since it lasts a bit longer on the car. ICE paste goes on my black plastics and trim. meguiar's foam on the tires. glass cleaner on the wheels after they're washed, then ICE quick detail on them. armor all interior cleaning wipes to wipe down the interior.

i suck at cleaning glass though so i let my fiancee mess with that, lol. when i do it it's either streaky or foggy on the inside or both. i've tried everything, newspaper, dry cloth baby diaper with no cleaning solution, you name it.

When I eventually do my car with the Glare stuff I will take some pictures of before and after. I figure for the amount of money I have spent on shit products in the past $100 isn't a lot to spend on something that is going to last and is actually going to work. PLUS it does your car 5 times (considering they guarantee it will last up to 5 yrs).

I wasted 30 dollars on the ICE Claybar and the ICE liquid wax... I have always used either mcguiars or mothers and always had great results from them. The only results in got from this ICE bullshit was having to take a trip to the local body shop to get my hood sanded down with super fine sandpaper and then rebuffed with an orbital buffer and clearcoat because a seagull decided to take a shit on my car one day during a four hour drive and by the time i got home to wash it that night the paint had the permenant impression from the acid in the birdshit burning right through the wax and the clearcoat. I tried bug and tar remover, liquid clay bar, regular clay bar and sponges and none of it took the burn mark off the paint until i had it sanded and buffed. So dont waste your money on this stuff. Get some Liquid Glass and enjoy the results.

I use the paste. Wax it in the shade with the applicator pad that comes in the package. Let it sit for 20-30 mins, then get rid of the excess wax with a microfiber cloth or something similar and you'll see a wet shine underneath. I sat and stared at my car for a good 15 mins the first time I did it lol.

Best way to do this, pre-wash your car with ICE car wash, then wash it down with ICE liquid clay bar ( smooths out the swirl marks and pits ), then shine it up with ICE liquid polish.

$60 for the whole setup.

NOTE ice will leave streak marks if you aren't careful. However washing, clay barring, and polishing my car took me 2 hrs for perfection.

Waxing alone takes 3 - 3.5 done right

ALSO NOTE THAT LIQUID POLISH IS NOT WAX IT IS A POLISH FOR A SHINE. SO IF YOU SKIP THE CLAY BAR AND THE WAX AND ONLY POLISH YOU BASICALLY JUST MADE YOUR CAR SHINY. SO EITHER WAX AND POLISH OR CLAY BAR AND POLISH

END NOTE

ICE IS AWESOME.

I washed the car then I used the Turtle Wax Polish over the whole car, let it dry, then i used Meguiar's Gold Class Wax to finish it off, the paint looks sooooooooo deep. Alone the Turtle Wax Polish isn't bad, but when paired with the wax it does a really great job.
