The LNF turbo swap

has anyone seriously looked into doing this? Are theyre any forseable problems why it wouldnt work besides the piping being wrong? I mean the exhast and intake manifold should bolt right up. The Turbo is already properly sized. It seems like a cheap and easy swap considering the exhaust manifold is like 230 bucks from GM.

I've thought about it before, but I've never looked into it or seen anyone talk about it. You're right, it seems like you could at least use some of the components, or at least just the exhaust manifold.

I would opt for a different turbo. From the dynos I have seen of the LNF cars with intake and exhaust, the turbo runs out of breath in the top end.

Yeah, I agree, but from what I've seen, it looks as though the stock turbo manifold would at least perform better than the Ebay 2.2L manifold, if your goal was to save money rather than buying a fabbed one. I don't really know though, as there are no numbers to prove this, the LNF manifold simply looks better. haha

also the fuel delivery system is different....they have fuel injectors that directly inject into the cylinders, along with a low pressure fuel pump and a high pressure fuel pump that pushes a max of 2175psi at W.O.T.......not to sure how easy it would be....but it would be cool.

Yeah it would be cool but impossible haha. But, as far as just using the exhaust manifold, that may be possible, I don't know.

The turbo manifold and turbo have nothing to do with the fuel system so they should be fine. Now if you were talking about swaping the entire head you would have an issue with the fuel system.

I'm not sure if the manifold and turbo will fit on the cobalt thought because the engine doesn't fit the same way in the engine bay. The turbo may hit the firewall. I will agree that the Manifold will flow much better than the Ebay knock offs. It is also designed for a twin scroll turbo which would be awesome if the new turbo was also a twin scroll for faster spooling.

Holy High Pressure Batman!

Are the fuel lines wrapped in carbon steel as well?

Thats nothing new. Diesels with mechanical pumps have fuel pressures of ~1800 BAR(26000 psi). If you can use pressure that high, 2100 psi is nothing. It is kinda funny when you feel the fuel line pulse, it kinda swells a little every time the fuel pump fires that cyl.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about was the fuel system. The only way would be to swap the head, and that is pretty much crazy talk. I know people have done it before on Hondas but it's an extreme modification.

As far as the exhaust manifold, we would just need to see one and measure it. Right now I'm just discussing this just for the sake of discussion, nothing more. If I was actually going to go turbo and had the money I would have a turbo manifold fabricated.

Yeah the Franken blocks are cool for the Honda's, but they all share the same fuel delivery system. The more extreme ones convert from a non-VTEC head to a VTEC head. THe LNF would be nearly impossible because of the DI and the VVT. Something that maybe possible would be putting the LNF cams in an LSJ, but I'm sure about the cam sensors aligning properly. I know the L61 and LSJ cams are not swapable because of the sensors.
