Clutch Plroblem!! Need Advice

Tonight when i was driving around with some friends up on on this road that is up in the hills that is kinda steep and curvy my car started smoking. I was with my one friend who has a civic hatch back with some mods who i was following and my other friends who was riding his old VW rabbit(couldn't keep up with us because of slick tires). i was doing fine following the civic when i mest something up that i can't quit remember and my clutch started smoking and when i was shifting, id didn't seam to gram and my RPM's just went up. I my car slowed way down and smoke was coming out under the hood. i had only about 50 yard to drive untill i got to a abandoned parking lot where my civic friend was. My car barly made it up tot he end of the road and i just polled into the parking lot and my clutch was SMOKING. i opend the hood and smoke came rushing out. Once my wrabbit forend pulled up my car was still smoking and they were saying it was my clutch. They said there will be a few differnet thing wrong w/ my clutch and that i was fucked. My engine temp was 230 degrees, so they said just wait 30m soir could cool down then start the car up. The engine cooled down to about 190 and i turned that car on and took it for a quick test drive to see if i still had a working clutch. Everything seemed fine but the smell was horrible and all over my inside and clothes. My friend who claims to know a lot about cars said that my clutch will eventually start slipping and soon i would need to take it into the shop. At the moment my car seems fine, but do any one knows what will really happen? and if i am screwed or will my car be ok??

Sorry for the long post, but i just want to explaine the situation as thoroughly as possible.

If anyone has questions i will answer them.

I have an 06 2.2 ls almost 9k miles... forgot to mention.

Do you slip the clutch a lot normally or perhaps keep your foot on the clutch pedal while driving? Those are the only reason I can think of for a clutch failing like that.

hrmmmm yeah seeing as you say the smell was horrid (clutches usually do) thst makes me think clutch, hearing that your coolant temp was 230 makes me think its possible it could be something else. I suppose since you clutch may have been slipping your RPMs were pretty much higher than normal but ecotechs have very efficient cooling systems stock and i have a SS/SC which generates alot more hat, highest i've ever seen is 218 and i'm running intense stage three?!!?!?!? sounds odd to me. I highly recommend dealership first, and if clutch is condemned it wont be covered under warranty, so shop around for best price

omg, last night i was driving around with some fiends, not doing anything dumb like before and my clutch stops working... i couln't put it into gear and when i finally found a gear the care started shaking as i put it into gear... i took it into a chevy shop this morning and they said it might coast around 1k to fix. it sucks cause i don't have the kin of money. if they put in a new clutch i might as well pay a few extra dollars for a stage 2? is that a good idea?

Cant do stage 2 man. You have the 2.2 Engine. As for the clutch, it sounds like its toast though, but why the temp would be so high, i have no clue??

By the sounds of it you will need to get the flywheel resurfaced or replaced depending on the damage. An aftermarket clutch and flywheel would probably be cheaper. If you get a flywheel with an insert you could replace just that and the clutch if this should happen again, instead of replacing the entire flywheel and clutch. Take a look at the Bully clutch at Tag Racecraft. Probably the most economical as well as durable from what I hear.
