chirping noise from engine
cobalt makes a chirping noise from the enginebay upon starting it cold for about 60 seconds - 2 minutes then it goes away i guess as the engine warms up a tad, only noticed it recently with the colder mornings but never last winter.

all time favorite show!!
back on topic, as long as it stops once the car warms up, i can pretty much guarantee that's what it is... it's not uncommon when it's cold out, in any car

i just wanted to add, its not a belt squealing type of noise, ive heard those before on other cars, its a chirp that runs in tune with the rpm of the engine (chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp - if u said that outloud one after the other, thats the sound)
im just worried because i heard stories of rotors hitting the housing

Bringing back this thread from the dead, Was this problem ever resolved?? Mine is doing the same thing now. Brought it to the dealer and they thought it was belt squeak, so they put a new belt on. That didn't change anything it still does it everytime I start it and lasts for a few minutes. It is really annoying and it definately isn't supposed to sound like that. I narrowed down the noise to the passenger side of the engine compartment somewhere in the rear so it is not the supercharger. Anybody have any ideas????

Take the belt off and in the morning when its cold try spinning and feelling by hand the idler pulley, super charger and air con pulley.
if you have stage 2 the charger pulley could be slightly out of line causing the chirp until the belt heats up.

Well, I took the belt off and spun all of the pulleys by hand and none of them make any noise and they all spin freely like they should.
From what it sounds like, the noise is coming from the back of the engine where the water pump is. Also forgot to mention, this noise happens even when engine is warm, up to about 155 degrees. If it is at running temp (180) it wont do it. Its really weird, I can go into a store for like 10-15 minutes, come back out and it sounds worse than in the morning when the engine is really cold.
Im just afraid that my dealer is going to say that theres nothing wrong with it and send me on my way with a janky car that makes funny noises.

I believe this "chirping" noise is the belt tensioner...
My 2001 Ford Ranger had a horrible chirping under the hood... sounded like a couple of birds under there... dealer replaced the belt twice... that would solve the issue for a week or so... until the belt got good and broken in. On the 3rd return for the problem they properly identified it as a faulty belt tensioner and replaced it... noise went away.
Now I know the LSJ is totally different from a Ford 4.0 V6... but both have belt tensioners... so check there and see what you find. Try squirting a bit of WD40 on the back of the tensioner pulley and see if it goes away.

Yeah, car runs great. It could possibly be the exhaust manifold. I am bringing it back to the dealer to let them decide what it is since I still have warranty left. I am actually surprised that they warrantied the belt since I have stage II and installed myself.
