I have seen alot about the S/C coming for the 2.2.. I am going to be buying a LS Nov. 18 (i hope if all goes right) What i am wondering is on the 2.0 it is a intercooled S/C will this be the same for the 2.2? Or will there be no I/C and the 3000$ or so is only including the S/C? Thanks for any Answers :D

The 2.2 S/C kit is not intercooled. We saw the prototpye at the GM small car bash. It's also an M45 not the M62. Your looking at 175 HP with it installed on the 2.2.

Look at this link to the ECOTEC build book. They say 250hp. They also show and talk about an intercooler.

Zinner might have more accurate data. The build book instructions are a reprint directly from the Cavalier / Sunfire kit. The kit described in the build book could not actually be used on a Cobalt. The kit in development for the Cobalt will be different. Also, just because it's covered under the 250HP section of the book doesn't mean that the kit produces that much power. It's just covering upgrades that produce up to 250. I would think that kit probably makes around 200HP.

As for the upcoming kit for the Cobalt, I can't imagine that it is much different. If the prototype that Zinner saw is the final production model, then his data would be accurate. You wouldn't have to intercool a smaller supercharger that only produces 175HP. But if they go with the M62, then I have to believe that it would include the intercooled intake manifold.

I didn't realize that was for the old ECOTEC motors.

EDIT Wait, why does it show a cobalt in the pic, and didn't the last model year cav's have the same 2.2L?

It shows a pic of the Cobalt only because it is the current production car that uses the ECOTEC in a way that tuners would probably modify. Its just a promo shot.

The 2002-2004 J-bodies used ecotecs, and that is what those instructions are for. Yes, its the same motor, but the kit is designed to the body as well. It simply wont fit the Cobalt. In addition, the Cobalt uses an electronic throttle body, no throttle cable. That kit is for a car with a throttle cable, so thats another reason why it wouldn't work.

just do what i did get a wrecked ss engine and rip the s/c off.

as far as i know only one eco powered has the ss s/c installed. he pulled 218 hp, 202ft/lbs, on about 10 psi. everything else is stock besides his tuning with the e manage. i cant wait to see how the 2.2 w/10:1 compression ration reacts to the s/c with some breathing mods. its gonna be a fun winter.

In the soon to be released GM M62 supercharger kit for the 2.2 the charge air cooler (CAC) is only partially supported. You HAVE the intake mounted Laminova exchangers, but if you look at the install instructions, the inlet/outlet lines are just plugged so techncially NO INTERCOOLER!

However if you add an electric pump, CAC radiator, hoses and reservior- you will basically have the same CAC system as the LSJ.

also depends on the price. if you can get a crate lsj for 3800$ id only pay about half that for an sc kit since youre gonna need to get new rods n pistons if you want the motor to live a happy life.
