:confused: :cssNET: Hey people, I noticed my rpm gauge takes awhile, ok a second or two to fall back down to idle! is the flywheel really heavy or whats the deal.. And is there a after market flywheel out there that would help the engine rotation calm down? Hope my question makes sense?? lol

I believe this has more to do with the electronic throttle than it does the flywheel... though the 2.4 is a bit slow to rev

I lighter flywheel would probably be a good idea.... it will help the engine rev faster but it can make the engine bog when going up large hills... I just don't know if there is one available yet.... how much.... or etc...

the slow rev is in part , due to the slow tach GM is now using

The Cobalt SS Supercharged uses a Throttle-by-wire system, not sure about the 2.2 though. I'd assume the 2.4 SS uses The TBW system since the 2.4 Solstice does.

check Gravana website I do believe they have flywheel's

Throttle by wire... yeah... I believe all Cobalts have it.... b/c when you replace the gas pedal it just unplugs from the electronic connection....

Make sure you use a lighter replacement flywheel - good idea

This is true, heavier makes the rpm drop faster, but dont get confused. You want a lighter flywheel, that way you have less restriction in the drivetrain, which will free up HP. It'll make your engine seem rev'er, but when your clutch catches you'll notice how fast it'll drop compared to stock.
The only time you go heavier is when you have some serious power to lay down and you need to beable to transfer it flawlessly.
FYI: I sure you know this, but when you do a High Performance Flywheel, you should just finish the job and get a high performance clutch.

The flywheels are the same on the 2.2 and the 2.4. The 2.0 is different. Both are already avaliable through Fidanza. We have them in stock.

Would it be a bad idea to get a flywheel for an auto then? I am not sure the trans will be able to compenstate for the revs droping faster.

autos dont' have flywheels they have flex plates... so no using a flex plate instead of a flywheel is a no no

The car uses Throttle by Wire, not Drive by Wire. Throttle by wire controls the throttle body electronicly instead of using a cable from the gas pedal to the throtle body like conventional cars. Drive by wire is where the car uses electronics to steer the wheels instead of a shaft connected to the steeering wheel.
