I like this line:

The SS and SS Supercharged designations have been put on hiatus while the next generation of Cobalt high-performance’s legacy is finalized.

I tell ya' what caught my attention.

"Emissions controls:
close-coupled dual catalytic converters; Quick-Sync 24X ignition system; returnless fuel delivery system; fast-response O 2 sensor"

exactly how many of these things do we need now? Atleast the market for catless downpipes will stay in business... I bet you'll gain 20 hp from ditching that mess... welcome back to the 80's... emissions kills the muscle car round 2.

The new blue colors sound kinda cool. Anyone else notice the weight difference also?? 2810 I think it said for the sport model and less then that for the others.

The Camaro will have decent gas mileage, it has the corvette engine in it :-)

I noticed that cobalts have standard side impact air bags. Good move by GM - that makes their crash test rating quite high.

I was reading the dealer news and it said that if the factory that assembles Cobalt's doesn't renew it will introduce a new model to replace the Cobalt in 09 or '10. Probably a repost but nevertheless.

Rumor had it that the Lordstown plant wasn't going to be making Cobalts anymore, something different was going to be built there. I didn't hear that it was going to be the Cobalt replacement.

^^ I heard that too.. Something about mexico...? who knows, guess we will wait and see, Gm is skeptical about allocating certain plants new products with the UAW contract fast approaching... Our plant made HUGE concessions to get even "considered" for a new vehicle...

I think one thing everyone needs to account for is how long GM holds on to designs.

Look at the Cavailer. 1981 to 2005 and 5 generations of it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Cavalier

The cobalt is a new platform not a revision of an old one. I'd be willing to bet the cobalt will hang on, get updates and revisions just like the cavi did for at least 6 years before they do a total re-tool of a factory.

Otherwise they'll drop it all-together and start using euro versions of vehicles they already have. AKA Opel and Vauxhall's rebadged. The Saturn Astra is almost here.

Saturn Astra - Rethink American (saturns new tagline)

Vauxhall Astra - Didnt come into its own till the Mk3 in 1992

At least the speculation of weather or not the Cobalt SS will return is gone. They do state in there "the next generation of Cobalt high-performance’s legacy is finalized. Guess that also hints toward the fact that the Cobalt contract will be renewed come 2009. Can't see them puting a years worth of time into a new performance car for a platform that will be gone a year after it's release. Now, the only thing they need to tell us is if it will be Turbo'd or not

Speaking of the Astra, I'm glad they didn't redesign the headlamps on this one. I love the design and projector setup these have. To bad the grill on the Vauxhaul is nicer

the 08 models will have two catalytic converters... maybe some new rims... other than that, not too much.
