2008 Cobalt INFO
it is already premium recommended not required.
Its in my manual lol it says you can use regular gas with a significant power loss, but if knocking occurs put in a higher octane gas asap.
there won't be new redlines either, its the same exact engine. one difference however is tire pressure monitors for the DIC.
^^ you beat me

yea they say that the chevelle 454 LS6 rated at 450hp at the cranks for insurance but usally measured about 650 at the wheels. I know that the 1st gen camaros 302 was way underated rated at like 250hp but usually at about 500hp at the wheels.
The new 2009 Cobalt SS , if nothing changes , is supposed to be in showrooms at some point in the 2nd quarter(Apr/may/june) of 2008 . Theyre debuting the new engine in the HHR SS first ....so if ya want a sneak peak at the cobalt SS mechanically , the HHR is supposed be out in December . The Cobalt SS should be on the auto show circuit this season , most likely in Chicago .
I didn't know that. The dealership brochures just say regular octane for the 2.2/2.4, never once said a recomendation for premium.
Besides the point I don't know why GM doesn't feel confident to bump the 6800 RPM limit to 7000RPM....

i have been wondering this myself, does anyone have some insight on this?? ( the rev limiter)
for sure, there goin to mexicoooooo.
Do you think the next generation of the cobalt ss will be RWD?
i just read on autoblog.com that the pontiac G5 will be RWD by 2010, isnt the G5 and the cobalt twins?.....
"The remake of GM's performance brand will also include the demise of the Torrent, while the G5 will be replaced with the RWD Alpha platform by 2010 unless CAFE standards put those plans on hold."

Okay... Pontiac is trying to go a different direction from Chevy. If they switch the G5 to a new platform it won't be a rebadge of the Cobalt anymore... the current G5 is a "stop-gap" measure used to give Pontiac a car in the under $20k price range
And any engine makes more at the crank (no parasitic loss) than at the wheels. Gross horsepower (the 450 that the LS6 was rated at) is the engine on a bench dyno with no accessories at all. Net horsepower is much closer to as installed in a car. The Gross number will always be higher than net.
Don't get me wrong, I love old musclecars and am actually more active in that community with my 77 TA than I am with my strippo Cobalt, which is my daily driver, but the old Gross horsepower rating had nothing to do with what we'd currently consider reality.
Urban legend and bench racing. Stock LS6 454s dyno at 300-325 or so to the rear wheels.

Old muscle cars are great..but only the ultra high HP ones were fast. From what I have been able to uncover--a stock 300 HP (thats gross hp) is a damn close race for a 2.4L 5 speed.
Mosts test froma bone stock 302 Z28 were mid 14's too.
Sure if you put lsicks, headers and tune it up--you could drop those times a fair amount.
