Celica GT-s looses to sunfire?
Celica GT-s looses to sunfire?
Okay, two of my friends decided to race. One has a 2000 Celica GT-s with intake and exhaust. It is an Automatic
My other friend has a 2002 Sunfire Se Sedan. He has a muffler. lol.
They did 3 runs. and the sunfire won ALL 3 TIMES.
My friend with the GT-s doesnt know cars real well and he said that when he got a oil change the shop said his fuel ratio was off. and he threw a CEL tonight.
I am guessing he needs to reset his MAP sensors because the intake....Disconnect battery
Any guesses? Help for us? Ideas?
There is no way a stock automatic sunfire would beat a GT-s. End of story.

What was the setup for this race? Was it at a track, or on the street? Standing start or street start?
The 2ZZ-GE in the Celica GT-S is a really high strung engine and doesn't come "on cam" until 6100 RPM. These engines have virtually no torque from a standing start and the automatic vs. the 6 speed manual doesn't help (automatic is actually pretty rare in the GT-S - it wasn't even offered in the Matrix XRS, Corolla XRS or Pontiac Vibe GT with the same engine).
On the upper end, the Celica is eventually going to win out, but in a short distance it doesn't surprise me that the Sunfire can win. The Celica gains 41 horsepower at 6100 RPM when it hits the "lift" in the VVTL-i.

i was beat by a gt-s he was 6pd/intake/exhaust @ the track. It only ran a 15.7@86 and I ran a 15.9 @89
did i mention it was embarassing?

Have the code read.
yeah, celicas have zero powerband. once you hit VTAKK or lift or whatever it's called, you've hit redline and have to shift. they're N/A beasts if they're 6-speed and have an absolutely stripped down interior, but other than that, they're pretty much only good on the twisties.
Good race with the auto GTS. They're slow. End of story. He threw CEL codes from the intake, it's common with Celicas. But most of the time, intakes bolt on with no CEL codes for different incoming air. And it was the Mass Air Flow Sensor he had to clean. As for saying Celicas are slow...

If the 550 whp Celica made by the race shop had more practice, he could've been close to the 10's. A I/H/E, Apexi Power FC standalone ECU tuned GTS has gotten into high 13's before. GTS's with this setup along with cams have gotten 200+ whp NA. And the white Celica that was in this month's modified mag ran a 12.68 quarter mile time with just a $2,800 (non intercooled) greddy supercharger, 11 psi pulley, I/H/E mods, and a cheap snow performance water injection kit: http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?t=250216 .
