Its pretty much useless but I believe its used as a sound deadner and to keep the engine a little cooler

Some have speculated that the engine runs a little warmer with the cover on, but I don't know - I can't tell either way.

By the way, the GMPP intake fits fine with the plastic cover still in place, although it looks much better with it removed. I plan to re-install my stock intake and plastic cover when winter gets here to try and keep my engine cleaner.

Cooler? I've noticed my coolant temps have dropped since I removed the cover.

Looks much better without it. This is/was my 06 LS. Any day now I'll be getting my red powder coated VC from Modern Performance and I'll post some pictures of what a 2.4L looks like too....

Appreciate the comments. My DC sport strut bar was also powder coated by Modern Performance for me so it would match the VC. The 2.4 VC is not evenly cast -- that is, the forward cam section (with "VVT" imprinted) is taller and larger then the rear cam section. I'm interested in seeing how it will look powder coated -- I'm, thinking it needs some kind of filler plate around the coils and cam solenoids.

I took mine off the day I got my car. Thought it looked cheap and a$$ ugly. The exposed valve cover looks much better IMO.

I leave mine off for the spring, summer, and most of the fall, but when winters comes I leave it on to keep the valve cover clean and also to help the engine retain heat between starts so I'm not always cold starting.

no function really from what i can see. Just pops off easily after removeing the oil cap, then the extention tube pulls off (a lil tougher tho) makes it look cleaner especially if you polish it out or like cobalter said, powder coat or paint it are options

all it does is to dress up the engine from factory. and yes its a waste of good space and it keeps the heat in my car ran cooler before i got my bigger injectors. i took off the top cover and the intake plastic cover. i made a coil pack cover for the the thing and looks pretty good. and i have the gmpp intake and i can tell you i shoulda went with the injen intake looks better and nicer without that extra stupid plastic that the gmpp one has. yea go ahead and take it all off and that back foam on the firewall by the header will burn off which isnt nice. rip all that out to i did. and im working on finding the little air collector in the right side behind the headlight that sucks the air into the intake box. thats coming out for less weight and more air. im trying to find things here and there to reduce my weight but adding new parts like bigger exhaust all stainless is heavier than stock so. have to make up for that. well hope this helps.

ryan.

i does nothing but keeps it a little bit quieter, i took mine off almost as soon as i got the car, and i think it keeps the engine a little bit cooler now that its off

i dont know if i mentioned some other useless parts. theres a foam black thing held in by i think 3 screw on plastic clips on the firewall that will eventually get melted off by a header lol. just rip it all off beware i think it has fiberglass in it my arms turned rashy red and scratched for 3 days. the car got more room to work and more air and less heat.

Take off all plastic over valve cover.
Take off all plastic for the stock air intake system, if your using the bottom half of the airbox for the gmpp intake then leave that but if your going anything else remove all of it, and go in behind the pass side headlight remove theres a piece of filtering plastic for the air intake take all that off put headlight back on.

anything in the trunk that you dont want remove, foam black under trunk lid, mats covering over tire spare tire remove whatever you want so far thats almost 200lbs.

there are some other things hiding i just havnt got the curage to tear everything apart on my car yet.

Oh and i forgot the plastic over the computer and theres 1 more piece i forgot where it was though.

ryan. i believe that i can remove up to 300lbs of excess weight
