Eibach Springs and Stock Struts

So I have a question about the Aftermarket springs with the stock struts. Have any of you guys have had a problem with expolding the stock struts? Im looking into getting the Eibach springs

You wont have any immediate troubles by putting on lowering springs. Now they will wear out your shocks much faster then if you had stock height. So when getting springs its not a bad idea to upgrade to better shocks which are meant for lowered cars.

If youre going to spend the $$ on shocks/struts AND springs, you might as well go coil overs. See Coil over thread at top stickied.

or here
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums//showthread.php?t=28282

For all the labor of cutting the front strut tubes to insert the konis, the coilovers are goin to give you much more adjustability and such. Other wise just do the springs and wait till cheaper replacements become available. Tokico is working on a set but have yet to see them.

My $.02 is the KW Virant 1 for just good stuff, im going to be getting the virant 2 for autocross and daily driving.

Coilovers suck...I will never go with coilovers again. The spring rate is just too high on them for daily driving. Plus adjusting Koni's is a hell of a lot easier, turn a knob...done.

Yes you do have to cut up your front struts, just buy a second set...you'd have to buy a new one or set once the Eibach's blow out your stockers...

The SS/SC struts will work fine...I don't understand all the hating on Koni's.

No ones hating on Koni's. Its just that if the car is going to be used for more than just street driving, you need more than one way adjustability. Konis only have Bound Adjustment.

True Coilovers like the KW Variant 2's offer adjustable

Ride Height
Bound
Re-Bound

It depends on what you’re going to do with the car. If you just want it low, just put springs in it. There are plenty of SS/SC on Sportlines that haven’t had issues. Konis are fine but to spend that time to mod the struts or pay someone else to do it, IMO isn’t worth it. At least not for my application.

I have been on Pro-Kit springs for close to two years now on my stock struts with no issues. It is a daily driver. You will be fine. You don't need coil-overs. When the time comes that you need to replace your struts, just replace them with the SS's FE5 struts. Direct fit.

And yes, the 2.0 and 2.4 struts are interchangeable. From what I understand, they are the exact same part. The only difference in the FE5 and FE3 suspensions are the sway bar diameters.

I have Canuck motorsport springs on my 2.2. I've had them on for about 40,000 kms, and the shocks/struts gave out on me. Went to the dealership and got ss/sc fe5 shocks and struts and put them. Makes a BIG difference!! No need of Konis in my opinion.
