Trading SS/SC in on 300C
I'm done guys!
Well I just wanted to let you guys know that I am signing the papers on a 2006 Chrysler 300C tomorrow morning. I know many of you don't know me, but I have been around for about a year and a half now.
I was probably one of the cobalts biggest fans and planned on buying an SS/SC as soon as I saw it unveiled on chevy's website. I got the EXACT 06 i wanted brand new in red with the G85 package. I loved the car, and it was a hoot to drive.
However I made the mistake of having a GM mechanic in the boonies of south GA install GM Stage 2, and eventually a GMPP header and GMPP catback.
Well the car started overboosting after the stage 2 install, and ended up being in the shop for over 2 months getting fixed. Then a few months after getting it back, i raced an acura RSX type S and a bone stock SS/SC, and both whiped the floor with me.
After having compression tests, changing cats, changing intakes, changing spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, MAF sensor, and exhaust gaskets, the car was still a dog.
I had it dyno'd and it put down an amazing 131whp on a cool day. They even custom tuned it and still no go.
I had two seperate GM dealerships look at it, and both think that only having 131hp is NOT a warranty problem. So I'm done. I'm getting rid of it, and getting something else.
I know many of you havent had a single problem, and I know the SS/SC can be a great car, but mine was not, and i will not pay $350/month for 131hp.
I just wanted to say thanks so much for the great website, and all the extremely helpful How-To's. The community here is extremely helpful except for the occasional V8 or SRT4 troll.
I will hang around and respond to this thread if needed, but aside from that, I will be over at the 300C forums . com from now on. Thanks and goodbye!

Thanks for the support guys! It seems the 300C has quite a bit of fans here! Well, I will give you guys a little more info.
1) It is the 5.7 V8. (if its a C then it must have V8)
2) According to the mag times, the 300C actually has 0-60 in the mid 5s and a quarter mile of 14.1. I'm not a mag racer, but that is definately SS/SC territory if not SRT4 territory. Anywho its better than 131 hp!!!
3) The pros are RWD! Sunroof. Sound system on par with SS/SC. Rediculous luxuries like seat warmers, backup assist, and power adjustable pedals. Compared to my ss/sc with tranny mounts this car feels like a cadillac. They put new tires on them too.
4) The cons are there only made in automatic. There city gas mileage is pathetic at 17mpg (there highway is respectable at 25). And i'm only making 500 bucks off of trading my balt in.
For all of you planning on trading your cobalt in on a new Camaro, I would highly advise selling it third party or trading it in as soon as the camaro comes out. When people say Cobalt has a low resale value, they are NOT kidding. My cobalt lost approximately $10,000US dollars off its value after only 26000 miles.

Heres the last response i got from a GM tech and i quote "If the boost guage reads up to 20psi, then you should be okay hitting that"
Thats the very moment i decided on getting rid of it.
Now the car is on its 4th cat! Can you beleive that? Four catalytic converters on a vehicle with 26000 miles on it. GM tech problem solving FTW......
Heres the kicker, at 20psi the car still only put down 131whp! Isn't that unbeleivable!
And to the guy talking about the SRT8. Those things are nice but the markup and resale value is incredible. Your talking upper 40's brand new and upper 30's with high mileage.
I'm getting an 06 300C with 35K miles on it for $23000 US. Picking it up tomorrow. It feels like the fastest thing in the world compared to that lemon i was driving.
But your exactly right. Thats why i'm not selling it myself. I would feel way to guilty taking another person's money for this car, despite it still being under warranty. Whoever buys this car is going to think all cobalts are crap.
But the funny thing is that it still feels fast, because of the throttle response. It throws you back in your seat but you just don't go anywhere.
I don't want to be held responsible when it eventually fails later down the line. I mean it can only take 20psi for so long ya know?

The 300C will get about 14 mpg in the city and about 21 mpg highway. It will not run 14.1
in stock form. More like 14.6. I have a 07 Charger R/T and my best time was 14.25 stock.
My 07 SS/SC with a few mods runs high 13's.
Good luck with the 300C.
when I put my car in R it goes backwards...what can I do?
Where can I find a blow up party passenger girl....she must be good looking

Very, very few 5.7 LX's run 13's stock.
I've also seen these cars go slower with CAI's, chips and headers.
I put a AFE II CAI on my R/T and lost 2/10 (14.4's). I put the stock airbox on
at the track on the same day and it droper back into the 14.2's.

why didnt you live closer
