2.4 auto hp

I was looking and seen the HP rating of about 140-150 stock at the wheels but what about the automatic? i have heard that the automatic is less but i dont know.

Doesnt that depend on the DYNO he used?

honestly, that whole "autos are less efficent" story isn't really true. you're probably putting down about the same power. the reason the 5 speed is quick is the gearing is a lot better.

Its not even the gearing always most of the time the auto is "slower" is because when in D it dosent hold the shift like you can in a manual. Ooo and those retarded GM nanny controlls.
Seriously can any one with an untuned nonheavily modified auto 2.4 balt do a burn out? I can get a lil chirp then a heapin spoonful of dissapointment as my car slowly crawls to 3500 rpm then my useful power kicks in way too late as traffic has engulfed my car. Almost like GM planned this car as a $22,000 FU** YOU to those that own one and do a ton of city driving or live in an area with speeds under 45 mph.

Automatics retain more heat than Manual Transmissions

Automatics typically have long gearing ratios than their manual options (like in your case a 5 speed manual and a 4-speed automatic)

Automatics transferring power to the output shaft have a much longer and complicated process to transfer the power to the wheels than a manual transmission. Simpler = More efficient.

This is all in stock form and not talking about the limitations computer wise (look up torque management for example).

yeah it is but i do have a GMPP intake w/ performance filter i figured 7 hp is wasn't an outlandish claim for that mod.

Every thing Kwanzabot said is correct for our cars in general. Though It still dosent explain why a 99 saturn SL1 full of engineering supplys and garbage which is also an automatic accelerates harder than the 2.4 auto from like 0-40.

It is. At the flywheel. The main thing automatics have that works against them is the torque converter. Its what creates all the heat and its what takes a couple more HP to spin. But at the same time an automatic is more consistant and will walk down a manual car of the same type. Case in point when I raced Chris in Harrisburg. He has a 2.4 manual, I have a 2.4 auto. I left first cause he spun but he pulled right back up, he hit second and started to pull, mine hit second and he stopped pulling, he hit third while mine was still in second and I started to pull on him.

Its all in the gears.

I dont know a bout all of you, but F burning out. These tires are exspensive. I dont have cash like that to be burning. My dealer was kind enough to give me two new tires because my front two tires are wore to ****. Ive had them do all the necessary maintence on my car including rotations. I have 16000 on my car and the tires already wore past the wear mark to paper thin. My dealer has been nothing but awsome. There might be more wrong with my car cause my rear tires are in acceptable condition. I go off on a tangent, my apologies.

well the pirellies are known to rubb away pretty easy, your right about that and someone asked about burning out and If thats what they want to do they should try it in low gear and not D

I usually dont burnout myself 17000 miles tires in good shape starting to wear down some, Ive had a couple nights where I decided to drift the work parking lot though but yeh dont recommend the burning out thing either and these are words that I wrote

Actually if you look up our tires, they're absolutely terrible. As soon as I burnt mine out I stepped up to the Michelin Pilot Sports, AMAZING tires.

My car won't smoke them in any gear its not i tossed it in D and tried to do a burn out TC or as i call it the antifunmodulator would stop you as soon as you got that initial chirp. Im talking slapping that puppy in 1st, L, I+, frownieface, er what ever they call 1st on our tranny selector you can tell because the no tc light comes on. Even break torqing it the most i can get is a lil chirp and mostly not even that.

Not sure how well this will treat your car, but, pull your E-brake up one click and your traction control turns off and then you dont have to worry about the traction control stopping your spinning of the tires, which i think is bad for your car. SO DONT DO IT!
