Ok this is my prob, I'm 20 years old I wanted a 2006 ss but my mother pay for it! I will repay her after but the condition is that she can drive it so I need to get an automatic one.
Will I be able to modify it has a normal ss, like all topic ppl are treathing are just for manual or both... exaust, intake, sound system e.t.c. (sry I don't know about cars a lot)
P.S. I live in Canada and there is salt at winter, also this will be my first car...
Thank you for reading this msg

Welcome to the site. You will be able to do the same mods to your car as other 2.4SS automatics and manuals minus the shifter swap (obvious). Good Luck.

you can get a shift kit for it, but i don't recommend it. get the thing in a 5 speed manual and teach the woman how to drive. if you get an ss in an automatic, you might as well just buy an ls or an lt.

Teach her how to drive a stick, and let her know the manual is cheaper than the automatic. :D

Well my mother haven't drove a car for like 10 years and she is scared of driving the night and in the winter... So I don't even try to convince her...
Anyway the only way I get the car is she buy it and it need to be automatic... but that's only for like 2 or 3 years till I finish my course and repay her then will change to manual...

Dispite the shortcomings of the SS Automatic (read no 5th gear!) I like the car just fine. I didn't want to be constantly playing with the clutch and shifter here in the city. I say go for the automatic... you can mod it plenty (check my intake post out) and get a good amount of power out of it.

Sure, I would've liked a stick, but oh well. For a daily driver, a stick gets to be annoying. It's really fun for a play car though.
But in response to your compatibilty. Yes. Everything will swap and be usable. But in my research, aftermarket mufflers can sound really funny with an auto. I'd maybe stay away from that. If you really wanted to mod it (IMO the SS exhaust sounds nice), get a Dynomax Super-Turbo universal muffler. I have 2 on my '04 Monte SS and love them. They sound almost stock, but nice gains for just mufflers.

I have an SS 2.4 auto and its freaking awesome. I could never get down the manual tranny so I said screw it I'm not gonna try to learn it anymore. lol Anyways like I said I love it alot and if it could stay neck and neck to an eclipse w/turbo yeah I know he probably had it on low boost or something but still the thrill of it lol 115 and I started pulling him.

I know man. I love my SS. I would've gotten a stick if I could...but one thing turned into another and bam...auto. lol. But I like to leave it in the slot below drive and let it drop revs by its self, it sounds cool. haha. Id' do tha tall the time in my Honda with a stick. It was fun. The amount of mid-range pull in this car reminds me of my dads '04 Monte SS with the 3.8... Works for me!
