Found this stuff posted on another forum. I believe these parts apply to the 2.0L.

I ran the PN on the exhaust manifold, but it dosen't say if its a performance manifold or a stock replacement. I wish they had a picture of this.

 

Extrued honed....isn't that similar to port-work? A ported stock header?

 

yea its ported out, they were talking about it on the redlineforums...they seem to find this **** before we do :X lol

 

I wonder what kind of gains are produced with the extrude honed exhaust manifold, I looked at what it costs to get it done to your existing manifold and it's $385.00!

 

i heard about 10hp....idk if its worth it....

 

Saturn/GM said the Extrude Honed manifold made 10 HP over stock. It will be available in January around the same time as the Staged kits..or as we can see sooner??

It's nothing more than a stock manifold that has been Extrude Honed. Not much material is removed in the process, but things are smoothed out to increase laminar flow performance. Other options make more power, but for the most part it's a slam dunk install and CARB legal.

If someone comes out with a decent header than that would be the way to go, if it costs $385 just to get the extrude honing done then the GM part is probably $500 at least.

 

Hey, I hate to change the subject put I was reading the pic and is it just me or under Modification all the way on the left does it say "Yella paint" and not Yellow Paint?

Did they do an engine swap? If it's the 2.0L then they had to have put it in instead of the 2.2 or 2.4 since the car in question is a sedan. Not saying that's not what's done, it's SEMA afterall, I was just wondering if you knew for sure which engine it was.

 

Not for sure if it applies to the 2.0L... Just saw it on redline forum and thought I would share. Somebody that had seen it at seem acted like it applied to the LSJ.

 

eh... tog header makes 9hp. this apparently makes 10hp. If you're serious about having less power maybe?

 

Ah, OK. I was just wondering cause it caught my attention that it was all on a sedan, that's what made me think it wasn't for the LSJ.

whats a body color skull cap? and the thing says the exhaust is currently available?

 

The skull cap makes your side mirrors the same color as your car

 

Lol, don't think so one step ahead. I said serious about going fast. Do you think that even a ported exhaust manifold will be able to handle over 300hp with its less than 2" diameter? The TOG might make around the same power as the ported (even though that 10hp was pulled out of thin air) on a stock car, but with higher power levels the TOG is going to be way superior. So please think harder before you make yourself look stupid.

 

I guess it all depends on your app, if you want a reliable daily driver (not saying a header compromises reliability) that you can pull into GM for warranty work if something ever goes wrong without the hassle of arguing over aftermarket parts and whether they are the issue etc.... The GM part may be your best choice. But then again if you just want all out performance and don't care about the political garbage or whether they'll cover you if something goes wrong then drop in the header, hi flow cat and custom 3" exhaust!

Whwew does it say this "yella" Cobalt is supercharged? If its not---then wouldn't the parts be for the NA Ecotec?

 

Extrude honing is a little more complicated than taking a dremmel to your exhaust manifold. Extrude honing consists of pushing an abrasive-laden polymer media through the exhaust manifold. The media, sands away unwanted material, stress risers and burrs from the internal passage ways creating a smooth, polished surface. For most applications, the flow of the abrasive media is extruded in the same direction as the normal flow of the engine’s exhaust gasses. Therefore creating better flow throughout the manifold not just the ports, you can't get inside the manifold with the dremmel.
