Tire Opinion? Sizing Help? Yoko Avid W4S

Hey - Is anybody running these?
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=7

There are virtually no reviews on tirerack, but I figure I'm looking at about the same thing as Avid H4s, but with of course a better speed rating. The tread on the two look almost identical... So somewhere above the H4s but below the Advan I guess...

I'm also open to any other tire opinions - looking for a UHP All-Season that does fairly decently in the snow/ice (plus of course is good wet, dry, etc.) that I can get around $125 per tire or cheaper.

Also, I'm torn between -
225/40 18 on stock 18's (Looking at the Avid W4s) and
225/45 17 on stock 17's (I'd probably go PZero Nero M+S)

The biggest advantage I see to the 17's are they are a bit cheaper, so I can get a better tread for my dollar, and they'll have a taller sidewall which will probably be better when it gets cold.

These will just be used through the winter/when I leave Ohio as I'll be in a warmer climate and I'll go towards a summer tire, likely KDW2s.

Thanks for your input!

I think the best bang for the buck is the Kumho tires. They get good reviews also.

Hey, Cleveland!
You've already got things well sorted out. I'd use the 17s with some aggressive M&S tires since they will only be used in winter. Also, I'd consider getting a skinnier, taller tire for winter snow. Maybe something like a 205/55-17?
With the great reviews these days, I have trouble spending the big bucks for the brand name tires. Sometimes the cheapest tires get the best marks in their class, for instance the Generals in a 225/40-18 HP summer. I would rather buy 2 sets of sticky, good tires than one set of overpriced big-name tires for the same money.

Though I've never tried them yet I like Kuhmo. Heard nothing but great things about them and they score well in the reviews. Lots of people seem to like them.

On another note, where are you going when you leave cleveland? I'm moving to phoenix myself, had enough of NE Ohio.

Thanks for the help guys - I think I'm going to go with the ContiExtremes.. they were originally my first choice but tirerack had them on back order - however, I was able to find them competatively priced elsewhere.

And yeah, the reason I was considering going with the 18's is I had planned to use the 17's on my the car my wife drives (the SS/SC) since her route to work is often a hell of a lot snowier than mine. Plus her 18's are scratchless, and mine I bought used and they'll need refinished anyhow.

So I'm going with 225/40 18's on the 2.4 and likely (as you mentioned) something closer to 215/50 17's on the wife's.
