Running Hot

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone who put on an exhuast has their car running hotter than usual. Before i put the SS sc exhaust on my 2.2 i was running a consistent 195, now it goes from 190 to , the highest has been, 217. Anyone know what the problem could be? And is this going to cause any problems, Thanks in advance guys.

195 is not bad at all. If you hit around 230 then be worried. I believe you start damaging stuff at 240. When your temps are getting high are you in traffic or at a stop?

ON the highway its a consistent 192, but at stops and street/city driving it hit 215 217 most of the time now.

Thats about right then. If your in traffic its normal for the temps to climb over 200. Just make sure you dont get in the 230-240 range.

did you put the heat shield back on?

also, check and make sure that your pipe isn't leaking.

The heat shiled should be on the exhaust manifold. He should know if the exhaust was leaking because it would sound crappy as hell.

Turn on your AC and see if it continues to stay high.

This topic has been discussed many times before...

you don't damage anything until about 270-300degrees...230 is a tad high, but sittin in heavy traffic on a hot day, sounds ok.

you can always install a colder thermostat if you're paranoid about it

Wouldn't the engine get hotter with the AC on?

Yea, my engine COOLS down when i turn the heat on, When i turn the air on the Temp goes up. I just put on a cold air intake, maybe that'll cool it down a little bit. It sounds AWESOME now.

No thet will not make the temp go down. The cylinders might burn maybe 20 Degrees F cooler, but when its already at 500+, 20 Degrees dosen't really matter.

When you turn on the AC, the secondary fans should turn on, you should easily be able to hear the fan running, and it will continue running a minute or so after you turn off the AC. When I use my AC, my temp will never top 200, but will run about 5 degrees hotter than without the AC on. But the temp stays more stable, doesn't shoot right up while sitting at a light. You also need to understand that when you turn on the AC, if you are idiling, it will take about 1 minute for the temp to beging to fall. It might enev keep climbing for that minute. The water moves slow through the block at idle, thats why it takes a while for the temp to change.

it also depends on your driving...if your taking it easy it's tends to run a little cooler. the A/C realy does work though.
