Question Jet Performance Products for Cobalts?

Has anyone here tried the Jet Performance Products GM Module for "tuning" Cobalts?

See: http://www.jetchip.com/products.asp?...odel=2562#2562

Appears to "piggyback"..... plug and play canned tune module for about $320.

Dyno results? Track slips?

Also interested in your experience with other Jet Performance Products.

Thumbs up

Send Jet an e-mail inquiring them about the dyno results.

It is very interesting to see that the 2.2 has a performance program in two stages since HP Tuners still has nothing.

It looks very tempting, as it can be popped in and taken out if you need to get warranty work.

All I want is a GMPP touring exhaust, manifold and intake. That is considered lightly modded and the stage I would be perfect if the dyno results match what HP tuners did to the older 03-05 Ecotecs. They got around 20hp on a stock Sunfire/ Cavalier. So lightly modded should be a hair more I would imagine.

People with a CAI, exhaust and header on their 2.2 say they dyno around 168hp at the motor without tuning.

With the JET program, it might just enhance certain rpms and add a few hp on top, but I can't say it will add all hp to max hp.

For me and my less than optimum manifold from GMPP which is around 3hp and wimpy 2hp intake, it would be around 162hp I imagine. GMPP says 12hp on their exhaust alone, but I doubt it adds to max hp. Probably has higher hp numbers at lower rpms and they add all the points of gain up to get 12hp.

I don't want to go big on the intake, I hear about too many people with lean codes and backfires. With an engine that has a 10.1:1 compression ratio that suggests 87 octane, I am not suprised.

I remember being told at Street Flight many years back when I had a Hypertech chip installed on my Fiero I was told they do not really do jack, and that I really should have gotten a JET chip instead. I imagine they are still making products that make an actual difference unlike Hypertech.
Basically, Street Flight says that JET has made good numbers with their chips and modules unlike Hypertech.

Thanks for the find this is on my to do list.

I'd like to know how it compares to the vector tune

for me this one's cheaper as I'd keep the stock ecu if I went with vector for winter and warranty work, and with the jet I just have to remove it..

Cool Purchased Jet GM Module 10708

I made an on-line purchase yesterday from AJ USA http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/stores/...t_number=10708

click on the link above for pricing / ordering info. Their price is about $70 less than direct purchase from Jet Performance Products.

Note: I chose the "Daily Driver" version (without the "S") as it does not require installation of an 180 degree thermostat and require 93 octane gas. But if you are going to mod your engine for racing on weekends, the "S" module appears to be a great way to put a 5 minute install performance tune on your 2.4 which is just as easily removed for "stock" performance.

I will follow up post when I receive the module and install it.

Thumbs down Part on back order

Bad News!

Comments to Customer

Latest Comment:
Unfortunately, part number 10708 is on back order from the manufacturer. Based on the release date I have been given from JET, I should be able to have it on its way to you in 6-8 weeks. I will not proceed with the order until I receive confirmation from you to do so. Please reply to this e-mail, or call us at 1-800-877-1911.

i would not think of using jet product if you have HPT,when I had this on the vibe, it did thetypical stuff, like more hp,torque, shift points etc etc..The Jet product should only be looked at as an alternative to the vector tune and probly a better alternative, cause you can disconnect it at any time,a great choice for people concerned about their warrenty and so on.
The thing to remeber about Jet is,this is all they do,so they probly did their homework on our computers.

Im sure it bypasses the original stock program thus it will bypass your HP Tuners program, it is a plug and play item.

Like I said, I will never use Hypertech again, but I hear nothing but positives from JET customers.

Superchips is another company that might have a plug and play for the Cobalt in the future. Superchips is supposedly another good company for such modules and chips.

I hope that they did not market these before the product even came out, that would blow.

$230 for approximately 20hp is a steal.

A little e-mail I just sent... I will keep you guys updated as to what they say in return.

Hello,

My name is Justin and I am a member of a Cobalt Performance forum. Many of us have heard of your products and some have even used them on previous vehicles with great results and satisfaction. We are quite interested in hearing more about the product and the specifics of what it really is doing and what it changes. Have there been any dyno runs yet for the Cobalts (all levels) and if so, can we get copies of these results?

What do you consider moderately upgraded compared to heavily modified cars for the differentiation between stage 1 and stage 2 modules?

In regards to rev and speed limiters what adjustment is made to the models?

Being a driver of a 2.2L model, I am quite interested in this product as our version of car has been left out of any kind of tuning options. This has led to a large group of drivers looking to improve performance of their vehicles but with little to no options. So we would like to specifically see what this product could do for both the Manual and Automatic.

If you provided information and results from the other models (SS 2.4 and SS/SC 2.0) I would gladly post these up and spread the word among the forum and most likely stir up some business for your company. It might also be worthwhile to look around the forum itself and consider becoming a supporting vendor as this would most certainly guarantee you a significant amount of sales from cobalt drivers of all levels.

If you are interested in looking around our forum please feel free to look around (www.CobaltSS.net) and if you wish to contact myself on there, I can be reached by the handle OrngBalt.

I look forward to hearing from you and seeing what your product can do!

Thank you for your time,

My question was wether or not the 2005 models were supported. I sent them an e-mail and apprently they aren't. I don't see why not because its the same ECU as the 2006.

i would assume so, considering what it basically is doing is cutting off the tune from your stock ecu and sending out its own signal. Wether or not it is better than the stage 2 tune... i donno... i imagine tho if you have an hp tuners tune you would not want to use this.
