pure power

how much power can i squeeze out of my engine with the AEM F/IC? i'm not looking for big numbers. honestly i'm shooting for an additional 30hp pre-spray. My next power mod will be a set of stage 1 cams and springs.

thats a good question brotha...I'm basically in the same boat as you as far as future mods go.

my guess is that you wouldn't notice so much better peak #'s as you would smoother power delivery. But I'm guessing if our cars run rich at WOT, if you lean it out a bit and command an AFR of 13:1 or so under WOT you might be able to bring out a little extra HP.

exiged i'm guessing right now pre spray i'm getting 140whp give or take. getting dyno'd this week, the appointments been set. putting up for a few power pulls n/a and a couple on the bottle. i want to add 30hp more to that with internals and fuel management.

for a nitrous setup, I'd go with the smt unit. Really since we can't raise the rev limit and take advantage of more aggressive cams, all we really have to make n/a power is compression and timing. Up the compression and advance the timing. The aem unit can't advance timing so it makes it kinda useless.

It might be possible to wire the smt to a window switch and run a dry shot. Hook your nitrous solinoid to the window switch as well. Basically it would be a full nitrous control system. As soon as the window switch kicks in your nitrous would activate and the smt would spray fuel via 5th injector and retard the timing for a bigger shot.

Would take some fine tuning but would make for a great nitrous system.

i don't want to relie on spray for all my power. i'll look into the smt.

also the aem site claims their unit will retard timing.

Yes it will retard timing, what hes saying is ADVANCING timing. On an N/A setup advancing timing can give you some power increase. The SMT-6 on the other hand when hooked up properly, can control the crank position sensor inputs and basically make the computer advance and retard timing. The FIC does it in a similar way but not as well. AEM doesnt recommend retarding more then 10-11 degrees. Well with the SMT-6 you can go +/- 40.
