For 2008, the Cobalt SS will be turbocharged. For 2009, the 2.2 will be the LAP instead of the L61.

I resurfaced the photo because I know that the SS Turbo will be out mid year 08 for sure! I spoke to a plant manager at Lordstown who told me so and several people from this forum can back me up. We were there for the annual show they had in July

OK seriously, dont you think someone would have seen the turbo balt at the dream cruise or the auto show in detroit? I went to the autoshow and there was no turbo balt. I went to the dream cruise and there was no turbo balt....

I think it would be dumb to have a 2008.5 model. I mean look at the G8 isnt that considered a 2008.5 model since it doesnt come out in october like the rest of the cars? If they were gonna release the turbo balt in sayyyy, july, they would be retooling for the next year's car already. Im just suspicious of this, for something thats only MAX 6 months away, and none has seen one or driven one?

Looks like there will be a 6-speed offered with it(f40). That would be nice.

Wait how do we know for sure a turbo cobalt is being released?

lewisb13
10-23-2007, 12:19 AM
We dont this is SUPER speculation. Apparently a 370 hp grand prix (g8) is less important than a turbo cobalt so the balt is being kept "under wraps"

Anyways what is this LAP engine?

10-23-2007, 12:27 AM
yeah...i saw the MWL F40 also. can we even be sure that is 6 speed? either way there are two options.

I googled "f40 transmission" and it came up as GM 6-Speed transmission.

there's been enough proof that it's coming out. I don't see why it's SUPER speculation anymore with all the sources that have come forward, all the pics that've come up, and even spec sheets from gm employees.

The new 6 speed and turbo lnf engine have me sold power-wise. I'm just waiting to see if the rest of the car gets to me. Personally I'd like to see more pics of this thing. It's kinda gay that gm is being so secretive about it.

i wanna know if its gunna have a governor or how it till respond to bolt-on, like that ss/sc most u can go is close to 300 i believe without doing hardcore engine work

Novajoe

as far as I've seen the lnf is all forged internals. I haven't seen a hp limit yet but considering the stock motor puts out 260hp and they intend on putting out 3 staged kits then I'd have to think that it would safely handle at least 350hp. I would hope more, but I would expect it as a tuner-based car to handle no less than that

y wud GM release a 08.5 i mean the g8 is coming out then..y wud that have to be under wraps with a turbo cobalt. well see if happens. i mean the look at the solstice and sky 2.0 turbo. now HHR SS turbo. with the 2.0 in it..hmm maybe a 2.0 cobalt turbo. i mean i dont think they wud release the turbo cobalt if there is one mid year...we'll see. but the price will be def around 30,000 just like all of the other 3. well see. but cudnt i just buy a camaro ss for 10,000 more and be faster..well see guys.

The LAP engine is a hybrid 2.2 . As far as I know it will not see this generation . The 2010 Delta 2 Cobalt will definately have a hybrid engine .

IT is not speculation . Man , how many documents do u guys need , lol . Watch the automotive news online on the 29th for Sema info . GM is making announcements of 2 new sport compact productions cars .

i mean i dont think they wud release the turbo cobalt if there is one mid year...we'll see. but the price will be def around 30,000 just like all of the other 3.

You'll really be amazed to learn then , that this car will only run for 1.5 model years . This Cobalt wont come anywhere near $30K

yeah y wud he put up a whole section for a 2.0 lnf..kinda makes us curious...hmmm

Here's my question..... Why would GM stop producing the 'SS' cobalt and say "well we were overusing the ss badge" and then later that year come out and say, we're releasing a SS cobalt. not only that but there is already another chevy with the same engine (hhr ss). I mean usually GM will use the same engines throughout their different makes, but i dont see why they would put two of the same engine in two different cars with the same make.

SilverSS/SC

Beck - As far the Cobalt is concerned , that was only referenced toward the NA cobalt SS . The only reason their was ever a gap in SS/SC production is because the new car isnt gonna be ready until spring . GM couldnt not produce the LSJ past the 2007 model year because 1) its contract with Eaton was up and 2) the LSJ could not be certified to pass new 08 emissions regs without considerable cost .

It was a formality in other words . Killing it created buzz , bringing back creates even more .

The answer to the last question is easy . A 2-door coupe is a pretty limited market . The HHR SS will appeal to far more people than a Cobalt coupe . Especially when u throw in the fact u can get the HHR with a 5 speed auto .

Look at all the extra space around their engine though.

It should fit fine. The supercharger will be gone, so there will be a lot more room up front, allowing them to shift the engine an inch forward or so. That will then leave a whole ton of room in the back of the engine. And of course the intake box on the solstice/sky won't be there. Honestly, the cobalt engine compartment is empty compared to most foreign cars out there right now.

Trust me, if they can slam a 389 tri-power into a 64 tempest they can put a 2.0 LNF in a cobalt. If GM wants it to fit, they will make it fit.

Honestly I will be surprised if they dont call it a cobalt ss... I thought about it and i think it could be the cobalt 2.0t like the saabs.... concerning we get alot of things from saab, and we share the same tranny.... IMO i think thats what they will do instead of keeping the SS badge.... My guess is that it will be the cobalt 2T or 2.0T or something along those lines...

lol, I really wanna see what else will be in this 2008.5. The outside should look the same being as there was no plan to do a MCE. It should just be the drivetrain. However I think I saw some where there might be a a slight make over inside?

This just saved me a whole lot of money!

I recently popped my engine, bought a used one to throw back in and was in the process of buying a whole bunch of stuff to continue modding. Full GM Stage 3, exedy clutch/flywheel, but now it looks like I will be returning everything and going BONE STOCK.

Can't wait for the trade in time to come, since I'm on a GM smartbuy. Turbobalt here I come! :)

if it's anything like the new HHR interior then i'm trading in my fucking 2.SLOW for a 2.0 TC.
Their interior is fucking BEE-AYE.
and 260 horses..only twice what i got now cough cough.
Unless it's 30K, then i'll just have to buy a camaro z28 and settle =[.
First thing i'd do is go show up the 350z convertible that's been talking shit about how slow my 2.2 is for the past 6 months, fucking asshole. lol.
INfact everyone at my school calls cobalts slowbalts or shitbalts and i'd love to get a turbo one just to show them all up, of course i'll have to get my parents to co sign..damnit..

Hello no if you have the space keep the Supercharged cobalt. In another 10 years or so they will be so rare as to become collectors items. Heck you may even be able to get more than sticker for them before too much time passes considering a what...3 year model run.. say 15 or 20 k made.. how many with LSD and Recaro and sunroof? I mean really... it is going to be a rare car on the road!

Man if I had the fundage I would toally buy one clean it out and garaghe it.

Maybe.

There were more SS/SC made than the 04-06 GTO, and look at that resale value currently.
