Here's my question..... Why would GM stop producing the 'SS' cobalt and say "well we were overusing the ss badge" and then later that year come out and say, we're releasing a SS cobalt. not only that but there is already another chevy with the same engine (hhr ss). I mean usually GM will use the same engines throughout their different makes, but i dont see why they would put two of the same engine in two different cars with the same make.
Beck - As far the Cobalt is concerned , that was only referenced toward the NA cobalt SS . The only reason their was ever a gap in SS/SC production is because the new car isnt gonna be ready until spring . GM couldnt not produce the LSJ past the 2007 model year because 1) its contract with Eaton was up and 2) the LSJ could not be certified to pass new 08 emissions regs without considerable cost .
It was a formality in other words . Killing it created buzz , bringing back creates even more .
The answer to the last question is easy . A 2-door coupe is a pretty limited market . The HHR SS will appeal to far more people than a Cobalt coupe . Especially when u throw in the fact u can get the HHR with a 5 speed auto .

It should fit fine. The supercharger will be gone, so there will be a lot more room up front, allowing them to shift the engine an inch forward or so. That will then leave a whole ton of room in the back of the engine. And of course the intake box on the solstice/sky won't be there. Honestly, the cobalt engine compartment is empty compared to most foreign cars out there right now.
Trust me, if they can slam a 389 tri-power into a 64 tempest they can put a 2.0 LNF in a cobalt. If GM wants it to fit, they will make it fit.

lol, I really wanna see what else will be in this 2008.5. The outside should look the same being as there was no plan to do a MCE. It should just be the drivetrain. However I think I saw some where there might be a a slight make over inside?
******* ***** stage kits a redone interior and TC'd i might have to either custom everything into my ion or trade it for the balt..even though i don't like the body lines as much lol
This just saved me a whole lot of money!
I recently popped my engine, bought a used one to throw back in and was in the process of buying a whole bunch of stuff to continue modding. Full GM Stage 3, exedy clutch/flywheel, but now it looks like I will be returning everything and going BONE STOCK.
Can't wait for the trade in time to come, since I'm on a GM smartbuy. Turbobalt here I come!
