Please help, Im getting pissed at my car.

So last year in sept the check engine light kept coming on in my car and it was caused by a gas cap. They replaced the gas cap and i remember them doing something to the pcm... i think it was a recalibration? i cant find the receipt for the work order... but whatever they did fixed the problem because it stopped happening.

I just recentely had my head replaced and they had my car for 7 days.... i think the battery was unplugged for a majority of the time.

now my question is.... since ive got the car back its started the whole gas cap thing... check engine light is going on and off whenever it wants and its the engine code p0171 is what comes up. Could them having my battery unhooked for so long cause the computer to reset and need the pcm to be recalibrated or whatever again?

Ive already replaced the gas cap again and it still does it.

I just read a post from hackabuse and he stated he unplugged the battery to reset the pcm... so im thinking thats what is going on. Anyone think the dealer would charge me to have the software update ran?

Depends on if your dealer is cool or not.

so i call the dealer and one guy in service says the update i had done last time was burned into the memory so it cant be reset out of it. the other lady who i talked (who i usually deal with) just told me that it very well could be that my pcm got reset and it just needs to be reset again. who should i believe? she said i can bring it in when ive got a couple hours and have them look at it... she says she wont charge me and the other guy said 150 bucks.. fucked up thing is they both work for the same dealer.

I had a problem with this too. They said it was the cap, but it wasn't. it was actually my evap canister.
