Engine Power Reduced. I drove over 200 miles with it on!!!
I went to my mother and father in laws for thanksgiving 2xx miles north of where live. The car drove great on the way up. The day after thanksgiving I was going to the store and it kicked on (I was not driving the car hard at all). If its worth mentioning, it is colder up where they live and we are getting colder weather around here finally(south texas really doesnt have winters except when we get cold fronts... like right now).
I have had this engine power reduced a few times before, I would usually shut the car off and and wait a few minutes. Turn it on and drive off slow and it was fine.
Well to not make the story too long, It basically kicked on constantly. I even tried, slowly getting off the clutch in first with no gas pedal, and barley accerating in first, and shifting to second and it kicked in by 3.
I had no choice but to floor it the whole way home under engine power reduced. I never got over 65mph except going down hill. I hit 80 at one point downhill, however going uphill was a nightmare. The lanes would merge at time (im talking about driving on an interstate where your supposed to be going 70), the car was literally going 40mph at times trying to make it up hill, I was utterly embarassed.
After over 4 hours of this crap I made it home and parked my car in disguist.
I have terrible luck buying used cars and to be honest my cobalt has given me a hesitation problem since a month after I got it (I bought it march of 07)
I took it in and they found nothing.
As soon as I hit 36,000 I started getting eng pwr reduced, of coarse!!!
Now its non stop. Im fed up with it.
Ive read several topics on it and dont know which route to go. I read about it being the throttle postion sensor, however the dealership tells me my car does not have a throttle position sensor. I checked with several other car parts stores and got the same thing!
Im now out of warrenty and will be getting rides to and from work, any good advice?
Sorry its such a long story, I type like 70wpm so I can type quite a bit with out thinking about it.
